Shutdown is a short documentary film that explores the world of music venues struggling to survive in the midst of COVID-19. It’s a cold hard look at what’s currently happening to the soul of live music as venues across the nation continue to fight for their very existence. 90 percent of music venues will close their doors permanently if congress does not take action soon. These spaces are integral parts of our culture and our communities. This film tells their story. Featured in the documentary is NIVA Executive Director Rev. Moose, as well as multiple member venues including Alex's Bar, 4th Street Vine and Supply & Demand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr96pwYAYxI
Well, as you've probably heard, there have been more changes in the state regulations for live music. We got the updated info from the State Liquor Authority on Tuesday. And we have no idea how long this will be in effect. This was buried in the SLA update: "Additionally, please note that only incidental music is permissible at this time. This means that advertised and/or ticketed shows are not permissible. Music should be incidental to the dining experience and not the dra...w itself." And word is that this will be strictly enforced by the SLA. Unfortunately we're going to have to pull the plug on all shows for at least the next month. Two good articles with explanation of the new rules here: https://www.syracuse.com//new-ny-state-rule-bans-ticketed- https://www.rochesterfirst.com//new-law-from-new-york-st/ And naturally we just dropped a few hundred bucks on plexiglass dividers for the bar area last week.

Just heard that there's a discussion about the Save Our Stages Act on WBFO at 2pm Wednesday. https://the1a.org/
#SaveOurStages I wrote this piece in The Buffalo News in June. Today is a big day for this movement. If you are moved to do so, read this, get involved, and visit the SaveOurStages site to learn what you can do to help.
