A very happy Teacher Appreciation Day to our teachers who have had a very different year this year and bring so many smiles to our children. Thank you for all you continue to do!

Spring in Syracuse... At least our marigolds are safe from the snow!

I did a thing this year... I follow a lot of Montessori pages. I am always so impressed by how pristine everyone’s Pink Tower looks. My Pink Tower never stays pristine long, as I encourage children to use it freely in tandem with the Brown Stair. So the thing I did... I purchased a new Pink Tower that can only be used on its own, and kept the old one for building with the Brown Stair and other Sensorial work. ... I am aware that this goes against traditional Montessori philosophy which states there can only be one piece of a Sensorial material in a classroom. However, I am so glad I did this as I happen to have two budding architects this year who are obsessed with the Pink Tower and Brown Stair - check out their amazing work in the pics! You can also glimpse my still pristine Pink Tower on the shelf behind them. I like to think Maria Montessori would approve. #montessori #montessorikids

Birthdays at MDS are so special. We usually bring parents in for the celebration, but we couldn’t do that this year. Thanks to Mrs. Gibson for filling in and helping the kids make their trip around the sun!

In the midst of everything, we forgot to post these photos of the last day of school for our preschoolers. It was so nice to say hello and goodbye in person.

These are complicated times for all of us. Sadness, disappointment, anger, injustice, uncertainty, fear. Just some of the feelings we are all doing our best to manage right now. How are our children managing it all? The most accessible thing we can all do right now is read. Learn more about how we can all be kinder, gentler, more understanding humans. ... Below is a picture of some of my favorite children’s books that help us all remember the importance of kindness, respecting others’ differences, and acknowledging that we are all beautiful. The simple act of reading aloud to a child will help you both feel a little less overwhelmed, and provide a little moment of peace.
