With continuing uncertainty and limitations on group gat...herings, however, it would be reckless to funnel several hundred participants into our small hamlet, even 3-4 months from now. While our 25th edition will need to wait another season, The Mountaineer in conjunction with our co-hosts Adirondack Rock & River Guide Service will offer a Winter Climbing Series that will replicate elements of our group ice climbing clinics over 3-4 weekends. We and our sponsors feel this is the best format to maintain continuity, offer world class programming, and ensure a safe environment for participants. Stay tuned for details including updates on offering and registration dates. Our Annual Backcountry Ski Festival is still in the mix for March at least for now- with details to follow. Labor Day marked the end of a summer we won’t soon forget, with plenty of challenges but also some amazing moments of connection and stillness. Like so many of you, we find our respite in nature surrounded by the rhythms of each day and the slow turning of the high season. The holiday weekend also marks the starting blocks for our rapid progression through fall foliage into chilly nights with snow on the way! (just ask Colorado) We’re already helping some of you early... birds pin down your ski gear whether that be rolling Nordic/XCD terrain or your long planned foray into alpine touring and telemark. With a wide range of announcements from in-bound ski areas already in play, we project a busy backcountry this winter and are ready to help you outfit.
