Mount Sinai Health System employees share their Lunar New Year traditions and wish the community health, wealth, peace, and joy. 2022 is the year of the tiger. Those born in the year of the tiger (1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, to name a few) may identify with symbols of this zodiac animal: strength and bravery. #LunarNewYear

The #Omicron variant is very widespread and it affects people of all ages. That includes infants, toddlers, school-age kids, adolescents, and adults. It does not discriminate by ageeverybody is at risk. Vaccination goes a long way toward protecting childrenand adultsfrom the Omicron variant, and a booster shot provides additional defense against the virus. So, if you (or your child) are eligible for a booster but have not received one, we encourage you to schedule an appointment. By protecting yourself, you are protecting your child: https://mshs.co/2qK #COVID19Vaccine #MountSinaiToday #COVID19

Getting #vaccinated and a #booster will keep you from getting a serious illness. But being vaccinated will not keep you from spreading the infection to others, especially if you have no symptoms while you are contagious. That is why we need to keep doing what we have been doingwearing masks in indoor public settings, practicing social distancing, and avoiding large gatherings. And if you are experiencing any symptoms, please stay home: https://mshs.co/2nc

There are creative ways to move and stay active while staying indoors and watching your favorite shows or teams. And you will be less likely to grab snacks in the kitchen during commercial breaks. The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the agency had approved a waiver allowing Mount Sinai Health System to enroll a broader group of #Medicare patients into its Hospitalization at Home (HaH) program. The move is a game changer as hospitals in New York City brace for a continued increase in #COVID19 cases. The CMS has taken an extraordinary step today, facilitating the rapid expansion of Mount Sinai’s Hospitalization at Home program, an innovative care model with proven results. This means we can significantly scale up hospital-level services in the home, while enhancing hospital capacity for a potential surge, says Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount Sinai Health System: https://mshs.co/68 #MountSinaiNews

"Affordable health insurance is valuable because it fosters behavior change. When people have health insurance, they use it. They visit a primary care physician more regularly and receive the preventive care that enhances their health, prevents emergency care, and drives down costs," says Dr. Kenneth L. Davis, President & CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System: https://mshs.co/4r #COVID19

At 50 years old, Peter Cole was diagnosed with a precursor condition to #MultipleMyeloma, called Monoclonal Gammopathy of Unknown Significance. He was referred to our team at the Mount Sinai Multiple Myeloma Center of Excellence. He has enjoyed a full remission due to success with a relatively new medication, Daratumumab. "I feel quite strong," Peter says. I log in 60 to 80 miles a week on my bicycle during the season, swim regularly and continue full time with my architect...ural design practice. I am extraordinarily grateful to my Mount Sinai team. Dr. Cho is clearly extremely knowledgeable about Multiple Myeloma, but as important, he is warm and compassionate and his good sense of humor helps lighten the load. I also want to recognize the highly skilled and empathic Mount Sinai team, including a nutritionist and physical therapist, who have been a valued source of support during a challenging time in my life. They have provided a depth of expertise, facilities and resources that have been invaluable to me. Read his full #PatientStory: https://fal.cn/3b83T

Janice Benjamin was at the gym, powering through her normal workout when her cardiologist called with bad news. Janice needed open-heart surgery due to a faulty mitral valve. She turned to Mount Sinai's Dr. David H. Adams for her surgery. The surgery went well, as Dr. Adams and his team were able to repair her mitral valve completely, correcting the severe regurgitation that had been causing her symptoms and affecting her heart’s ability to pump. Two months after the surgery, Jan was already walking four miles per day, had completed her cardiac therapy, and had resumed light workouts. They did a fantastic job, she said, praising the entire surgical team. It was minimally invasive, and my friends all call my scar ‘cute’ because it’s so small.
