It was lovely to be at a community event again! We were thrilled to be a sponsor for the Rockland County OFA World Elder Abuse Awareness Day panel discussion this morning!
*Please note that today's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day panel discussion held by the Office for the Aging has been MOVED to the Rockland County Fire Training Center located at 35 Firemen's Memorial Drive in Pomona.*
Another BIG day at MOW! Our Ramapo Senior Activity Center has re-opened!! We are so excited to welcome our members back to their home base and to have Aileen back with us to manage the center! #reopening #newnormal #seniorcenters #happydays
NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY ALERT! We have a new off-site option for those seeking a volunteer opportunity. Put together a Box of Sunshine for our home delivered meal clients! No special occasion needed to give a senior a reason to smile
There are still spots available for the Rockland County Office for the Aging World Elder Abuse Awareness Day panel discussion. Join the OFA on Tuesday, June 15, 11am at Germonds Park to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons. Space is limited and registration is required. Please call the OFA at 845-364-2110 to register.
This is a big week for Scouts at MOW! Nanuet Eagle Scout candidate Dylan Lee stopped by our Clarkstown Center this afternoon to hang a plaque commemorating his Eagle Scout Project. Dylan spent the last few weekends repainting our Center, restored a bookshelf and replaced the blinds. It's like a whole new room! Thank you, Dylan and congratulations! #eaglescout #boyscouts #mealsonwheels #seniorcenters

We thank Subaru of America, Inc. for including Meals on Wheels America in their 2020 Share the Love Event. There's still time to buy or lease a fantastic vehicle and support Meals on Wheels! Head to your local dealership by Monday and be sure to check off the Meals on Wheels America box to ensure a $250 donation for senior feeding programs! #sharethelove
Were you able to join us for the Virtual Holiday BBQ Class by Gentle Giant Brewing Company? If not, here is your chance to catch to see the delicious food they made for us. It was only through the hard work of the Hospitality Management students at St. Thomas Aquinas College that this event came together. The experintial learning done through that program culminated in this class to support our older adults. Thank you and have a Happy New Year!
Today's #TestimonialTuesday comes from HDM client Rita C. who called to touch base about her meal delivery. She proceeded to gush about how lucky she and everyone in her building feels and believes they are Blessed. She says we are angels, and all the volunteers who deliver to her are a God send. Rita also mentioned that the Blizzard Box "present" was so thoughtful has it put away in her closet in case she misses her meal delivery. She wants everyone to know from the bottom of her heart she is so very grateful! God bless and Happy New Year! These amazing words of praise warm all of our hearts and make us so proud of the work we are doing! #community #Rocklandstrong https://www.mowrockland.org/homebound_meals.html

Cooking for a Cause is a virtual cooking class series hosted by local chef’s focused on fighting hunger here, in the Hudson Valley. Each session will benefit a charity that addresses food insecurity in our area. Chef Denis Whitton of Autumn Sparkill will host on February 2nd at 6pm and has selected Meals on Wheels as his charity. This creative fundraiser was organized by Hudson Valley EATS and we are thrilled to be a part of it! Classes are done via Zoom and will be interactive. What does that mean? It means that we will all be cooking from our own kitchens and you can ask the chef questions and see what your friends are doing, or you can just follow along and take notes. Go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cooking-for-a-cause-tickets-13 to buy your ticket today!

Last week we were super productive to end the year: we were able to deliver both Miles of Smiles and Blizzard Boxes with our meals! We have been experiencing a shortage of Blizzard Boxes this year and have been amazed to see nearly 600 boxes come through our doors in the last 2 weeks! Rockland has really stepped up for our seniors - keep them coming! We deliver these boxes throughout the winter months to ensure that our clients will have food in the house should inclement weather prevent us from delivering as usual. For instructions, visit https://www.mowrockland.org/p/blizzard_box_instructions.pdf #community #Rocklandstrong
From our Meals on Wheels family to yours, we wish all who celebrate a very Merry Christmas! May the New Year to come bring you health, happiness and peace.
