Member Spotlight - Pastor Randy Czyz Pastor Randy Czyz joined the Moyers Corners Fire Department in 2009 with the designation of Department Chaplain, offering spiritual guidance during stressful situations for members and their families, assistance with stress management, guidance for members and families, and many other services. Along with serving as Senior Pastor for Word of Life Church in Baldwinsville, Pastor Czyz was also an integral part of many department functions s...uch as blessing department line officers after our annual elections, blessing new apparatus, and providing prayers and blessings at wakes and funerals for retired members and their families. On May 20th, Pastor Czyz announced that he would be retiring from the ministry and from the Moyers Corners Fire Department. We would like to thank Pastor Czyz for his 13 years of service to the department and our community. Below is the speech delivered by Chief Edward Wisnowski at our monthly meeting honoring Pastor Czyz. Pastor Randy Czyz, Retirement is an exciting time in a person’s life. They have worked hard to build their career and step back to appreciate and reflect on how far they have come. In your case it’s how much you have touched the lives and souls of the Moyers Corners Family and the community they serve. Over the years, there have been many times that you had to answer the call and offer spiritual inspiration to a family who has experienced a devastating loss of a loved one and remind them they are not alone. You have also inspired me to always stay passionate and positive. You are a member of the Moyers Corners Family; you are irreplaceable as all family should be. May this next chapter in your life bring you endless time to do the things you love. And when you get tired of the recliner and/or the boat on the water, remember to keep in touch with your old friends and family here at Moyers Corners. Now the fun can begin! Wishing you a healthy and enjoyable retirement! From the Moyers Corners Family, Thank you and God Speed!"

At 11:22 hours crews were activated for a reported apartment fire. Initial calls were indicating an audible alarm with smoke in the hallway. Engine 22 [Lt. MacPherson] arrived first with nothing showing from the exterior and a building occupant approaching them reporting that someone on the 3rd floor couldn't get out. 22’s crew threw a ladder to the third floor and was able to safely remove the occupant from their apartment. E22 then moved the ladder to the C side of the stru...cture and lost contact with their second victim thus initiating a search from the window and continuing their search throughout the entire third floor. Liverpool Engine 1 arrived second and assumed the first due engine responsibilities, stretching a line into the structure. Upon gaining entry, their crew was met with a smoke condition and Moyers Corners Command [Car 3, DC Brown] declared a Signal 99. Car 4 [DC Dembowski] took interior command and was reporting multiple people trapped on the 3rd floor of the building. At this time the Signal 99 was upgraded to a Second Alarm requesting 3 additional truck companies respond to assist with rescue ops. Engine 32 [Lt. Atkinson] acted as the second engine + first specialty. Half of the crew had the second line into the structure and located an active fire in the stairwell while the other half began a primary search and secured utilities. Truck 2’s [FF Zinsmeister] crew also split upon arrival and immediately began laddering the remaining sides and elevations of the building and safely removed an occupant from a second story window. The other half of Tk2s crew began ventilating and searching apartments. Rescue 4 [FF Latham] assumed the role of second specialty and conducted a search resulting in the use of forced entry to ensure all occupants were removed from the structure. R4’s crew assisted occupants on the second floor out of the building to safety. To say we are proud of the efforts of our members today would be an understatement. The quick response of MCFD E22 and Liverpool E1 no doubt played a significant role in the outcome of today's fire. All occupants were safely removed from the building and the collective effort of all crews on scene was astounding. Thank you to all agencies operating on scene, those who stood by on our floors & those that offered up their in-house crews to respond.

Looking for something to do today that’ll make a difference? Stop by Ava’s Awesome Lemonade Stand at 8192 Trellis Brook Lane in Liverpool or click on the link... below to help her raise money for research, treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Ava Musci, an 11 year old girl from Liverpool and creator of Ava’s Awesome Lemonade Stand, opened her stand in 2017 when she became an active member of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The creator of the foundation, Alexandra Alex Scott, began raising money for children with cancer by selling lemonade when she was just 4-years-old. When Scott was 8, she passed away from neuroblastoma. At that time, Scott had raised more than one million dollars to help find a cure for the disease. Each year, during the first week of August, Ava opens her stand on the front lawn of her home where she has raised more than $4,200. Last year Ava raised just over $2,000! Let’s help her surpass that amount this year. Thank you for your support! http://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/2163104

Member Spotlight Length of Service - 50 Years Please allow us to introduce you to our longest serving member of MCFD, David Ferguson. Fergie joined the Moyers Corners Fire Department on December 20th, 1969. Prior that, he was a member of Rail City Fire Department in Sandy Pond, NY. MCFD was an entirely new experience for him, with much more modern equipment and a lot to learn, but it did not take long for him to make friends and start training.... For Dave, driving fire trucks came easy because of his regular work as a Greyhound bus driver. A short time after, he began his medical training to become an EMT, allowing him to respond to rescue type calls and drive the ambulance (yes, we had one of those back in the day!) Dave took on his first executive role in the department serving as Vice President from 1974-1975. In 1976, he took to the firematic leadership side and served for the first time as a Lieutenant. Within 4 years, he rose to the ranks of Captain. From 1990-2002 he served as a Fire Police Lieutenant. Other important roles Fergie has served in during his tenure with MCFD include Chairman of the ambulance fundraising drive, Co-Chairman of the Annual Banquet Committee for 6 years, and he managed our sickness & wellness committee which includes keeping track of all of our deceased member's resting places. To this day, Fergie still serves as an active member of the Fire Police. He has received countless awards over the years including the MCFD Chiefs Award and the Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Red Jacket Distinction Award. But, 2019 was his biggest year yet. Not only did Fergie celebrate his 80th birthday, he also reached a milestone no other MCFD member has; 50 years of service with the Department. Dave was recognized not only by MCFD for this milestone, but also by the Town of Clay, the State of NY Assembly, the NY State Senate, the Volunteer Fire Police Association and FASNY. This past year, Fergie was also presented with the Ken Brand Sr. Award for Excellence in Leadership. To say we are honored, proud, and grateful to have had Dave Ferguson as a member and friend all of these years is simply an understatement. His dedication to MCFD and the Town of Clay community is one that will be permanently etched into our history as a Department. Congratulations, Fergie!
