More from potato day yesterday... I use my little Farmall Cub with one hiller blade to make the trench, then the other blade to fill it up again. The cub also pulls the fertilizer drop spreader, and later in the season I'll use it to cultivate and hill. Our pick-your-own yarrow patch all covered in frost last morning... We started these plants from seed in the greenhouse in 2019, and transplanted them into the field that fall. Last year they really took off with beautiful colors, and the bees and ladybugs loved hanging out in them! What is your favorite perennial herb or flower?

Last Friday was so beautiful and warm, it reminded me of December 2018. Every season is so different; in 2018 we had such a cold wet fall that I was never able to prepare beds for garlic where I wanted to. We ended up poking holes in the old tomato beds, and I was scared it would never get planted until we got a freak 60 degree day in mid-December which melted all the snow and provided us with a moment of garlic planting grace. This year the garlic has been in its beds for ov...er a month already, but I'll still take advantage of every warm moment the weather will give me... Pete and I spent last Friday spreading mulch between all these beds in preperation for onions next spring. As the weather gets more and more unpredictable, I'm grateful for the chance to get ahead; having the beds ready to go means that no matter what is happening next May when my onion plants arrive (remember this May, when it was snowing?) we can put them straight in the ground! #mudcreekfarm #petetheheeler #gettingahead #straw #organicfarmlife See more
