LGBTQIA+ and Black identity has always been policed. The individuals who live at the intersection of these identities are particularly vulnerable. Trans individuals are 3.7 times more likely to be subjected to police violence and 7 times more likely to experience physical violence when encountering police compared to their cisgender counterparts. And these numbers are even starker when you look at trans people of color. Including LGBTQ lives in the efforts to reimagine public safety is a perfect marriage. Stonewall was led by Black and Brown trans women, and our efforts to transform our criminal justice system must recognize that LGBTQ identity has to have a space in our fight. #Pride
