Our museum is located in the building in which the inaugural meeting of the NYS Antislavery Society was held in 1835. While we are currently closed to visitors, our gardens and exterior exhibit panel is visible if you are passing by. #wisteria #freedomgarden #abolitionhistory #abolitionists #antiracism

Beautiful photo of Smithfield Community Center/NAHOF captured on 2020 Election Day by Karen Savoca. SCC is an important historic building, but also serves as a functional community center, town hall, and polling location.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Smithfield Community Center we will be featuring a number of special events over the course of the next year. Today we will be featuring videos honoring the building and offering a peek into its history. Stay tuned throughout the year for more presentations, stories and events honoring this landmark of American History located in Peterboro. Our final video is from Town of Smithfield Supervisor TJ Stokes and Nell Ziegler of the Smithfield Community Association formal announce the start of the 200th anniversary celebration. If you would like more information or you have an idea, a story or something else that could help with the 200th anniversary please email [email protected].

It is great to see efforts being made to inspire more people of color to enter museum conservation. Great story!
