Pre-teen and teen girls often experience painful periods and/or heavy periods that they seek treatment for. This age group, who is just beginning to have their periods, may also experience irregular cycles as their bodies adjust to the change happening in their bodies. Many doctors may simply prescribe these teens the birth control pill to treat their health concerns, which they then might continue to be on for many years.
