Navillus Contracting

At the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, Navillus is performing a Design Build Project for the MTA Construction & Development. As part of this contract, Navillus is designing & installing over 100 new custom manufactured motors and a prototype water mist fire suppression system. This is the first ever installation of a water mist fire suppression system in a roadway tunnel in the USA. Featured here, the Navillus crew is rigging the high pressure pumps and supporting equipment that will supply the high pressure water for the water mist system in the new pump building. At New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)'s Governor Morris Houses, Navillus had a delivery of two 300BHP & four 400BHP high efficiency gas fired boilers. These boilers will provide heating for the 2,200 apartments throughout the development. The boilers were rigged into the boiler plant through an opening in the lower roof using the LiebherrConstruction's LTM1250-5.1 Crane, and required a highly skilled team & coordinated effort by all involved to land the boilers successfully. This milestone in the project is the result of many months of planning and preparation. At PS 46Q, Navillus is currently in the process of installing the final foundation elements for a new three story school addition that will include an additional elevator, cafeteria, classrooms and other support facilities. Yesterday, May 12th, we completed the installation of all the concrete foundation walls. Underground electrical and plumbing works, performed by Ark electric and S&L respectively, have been completed, tested and approved! Once the plumbing and electrical works were signed off, our waterproofing subcontractor, EAI, installed insulation and a liquid boot waterproofing system. Navillus anticipating Slab on Grade installation next week and 1st Floor Slab installation towards the end of the month. Amazing progress on this project PS 46Q team, keep it up!

Navillus is proud to be working with Skanska, the project’s GC, on the redevelopment of New York’s LaGuardia Airport. When complete, the $8 billion project will be the first new major airport in the US in more than 25 years. It will include world-class amenities, iconic public art, state of the art security, improved transportation access, and additional airside taxiways to reduce delays. At LaGuardia Airport, Navillus is performing both the exterior and interior work at Concourse A. We recently completed the framing for the fixed bridges and are currently working on framing the south faceted wall. Regarding the interior work, we are constructing all the vertical surfaces in addition to the demolition of the temporary wall. Keep up the great work LGA team!

It's the 8th Annual National Safety Stand-Down Week! Navillus is holding safety sessions at all our sites to remind our employees about important safety measures. This includes raising awareness of fall hazards and sharing how to prevent fatalities and injuries related to falls. Navillus is excited to announce we are reaching completion of the construction of a new Child Care and Community Center at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)'s Redfern Houses! The center was built using a Metal Composite Wall Panel System along with Pre-cast concrete walls and hurricane resistant Curtain Walls. It includes a brand new commercial kitchen on both floors of the two story building as well as bathrooms in each classroom and central air and heating systems. Great work Redfern Team!

Navillus has been working on a new boiler plant at Morris and Morrisania Houses. Last week, the work performed and photographed here included breaching installation and new Steam Header assembly in preparation for landing the six boilers. Navillus self-performed the formwork and rebar installation for the construction of the boilers’ concrete pads. A big thank you to our subcontractors at S&M, Infinity Contracting Services, Corp., and Varsity Plumbing for all their great work.

Navillus is performing the friction pile foundation at PS 369Q. After successfully completing the test pile program in March, we quickly moved into production piles. We are now half way through the pile installation. The NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) project has total of 143 piles comprised of two different pile types: 13 and 16. We look forward to finishing this scope and moving onto the Concrete superstructure. Thank you to the PS 369Q team for all your hard work!

Navillus is proud to announce a successful TCO walkthrough on April 2nd at PS 347X, a new 52,000 sqft school in the Bronx. The construction of this 5-story building consisted of a concrete superstructure, rainscreen cladding exterior envelope, aluminum windows and storefronts, new HVAC systems with four new RTUs, and two new elevators. Congratulations to the superstar team that made it possible to do this by April despite the many challenges COVID-19 presented over the past year. A big thank you to Gabriel Kirshner at Mitchell/Giurgola Architects who went above and beyond to support us throughout the entire project.
