Summer is coming! With warmer weather this week, you may be installing your air conditioning unit. If so, remember to always plug these units directly into the wall.
It is BBQ season! If you are using a charcoal grill or smoker, be sure to discard ashes into a metal, covered container away from your home. Do NOT dispose of ashes near your house, as this can cause a fire.
THANK YOU! This has been quite a week in Nassau County. Thank you to all of our firefighters and emergency responders. Please remember that our firefighters are all volunteers who donate their time to help our communities. It is at times like this that we urge you to check your smoke detectors and practice your escape plan. If you do not have smoke detectors, get them and install them immediately. Smoke detectors truly save lives and are your first defense to get out of a fire safely.
Working smoke alarms save lives by giving you and your loved ones an early warning sign. Have a working smoke/CO alarm on every level of your home, including basements and where you sleep.
Test AFCIs and GFCIs once a month. You do not need a flame to start a fire. Fires can start when heat builds up near things that burn.
