"My team’s favorite part of Buddy Walk is when we all gather as one big happy family. It shows my Samantha and everyone else that they are not alone. We and many others are here to help them achieve their goals and enjoy their life. Walk day is important to us because we are welcomed with so many individuals and hear their stories of accomplishment. My team’s favorite part of the Buddy Walk is the feeling of encouragement which is a great feeling to have when you hear and see the success of others! Join Sammi’s World and our other awesome Buddy Walk teams by participating in the 2021 NYC Buddy Walk on September 18! Learn more and register: https://give.ndss.org/2021NYCBW

#mystorymonday #ndsscommunity Father's Day is June 20 and also #NDSSDay! We will have been highlighting dads from our community throughout the month of June for #mystorymonday. Be sure to follow along! "I wish people realized how an individual with Down syndrome manages to bring out the best in people. I've seen so much love and kindness displayed towards my son, Mason, from every age group. I also realize that there will be times when people aren't so nice, but I have n...o doubt that love outweighs the other. He has also taught me, my wife and his siblings more about how to view and live life than we ever could have imagined. My favorite story is really a Mason prank. I also think it's one of my favorite things about him, which is hands down his humor. It can come at any time or any place. Every night, or every other night to keep me guessing, Mason puts his dirty socks either on, in or under my pillow (which I'll give him is funny), but sometimes he adds my wife's dirty socks as well. So then as soon as I get comfortable...boom, dirty sock party. I will yell "Mason," and if he's up I will always hear him giggling about it. He always keeps us laughing! By far the best part of being a dad, of a child with or without Down syndrome, is the way they look at you and the confidence that they have in their eyes that makes you somehow become the best version of yourself. Because of my kids I've tried and done more new things even when I didn't want to, or just wasn't ready to and almost every time I've either surprised myself or realized the blessing of that time together. The best advice I could give to new fathers out there would be to take whatever pressure you can off your spouse. We know moms love differently, so they worry differently. If we can relieve even a fraction of that by giving them some extra "them" time, or by communicating more about their concerns and worries, then we as dads can reassure them that we are present, and the best will come of any situation."

Pure love, the kind that every human being deserves, is exactly what I receive from her. She observes the world with hopeful eyes and cheerful thoughts. I wish that everyone, at least even once in their lifetime, are blessed enough to embrace, and share such a wondrous joy as I do everyday." - Gloria
