Sadly, we’ve all probably experienced criticism posing as encouragement. It usually starts out with something nice followed quickly by a big But. It’s important to note encouragement can be absent of criticism. It is possible and beneficial to help one another without highlighting and pointing out their flaws and failures. Is your finger out or your hand open? A pointed finger tends to back someone in a corner. It puts them reflexively on defense by putting them on the sp...ot. It’s forcing them to respond to critiques they didn’t ask for and weren’t prepared for. Unfortunately, this can occur when they are already emotionally raw and vulnerable. Piling on a critique to an already hurting person isn’t expressing the love of God. It’s quite the opposite. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. An extended hand seeks to pull your brother up and help them steady themselves. An encouraging presence and encouraging words are a You can do it! in a sea of Just give up! It’s a life preserver when the storms of life are raging. Think of a time you pointed a finger instead of lending a hand. What was the result? Now think of a time when you gave a hand and planted seeds of encouragement. What was the result? Encouraging words don’t cost money but they do cost something. We put ourselves on hold to build someone else up. To encourage is to focus on edifying my brother without the assurance of or motivation of getting anything in return. How can you tangibly encourage someone today, tomorrow, or this week??? A phone call? A handwritten note? A positive email? A visit? Now go and do it! For more on biblical encouragement check out 5/30’s Sunday message. It’s another great sermon in The One Anothers series. We can mistakenly think we have to feel like forgiving before we forgive. Or we mistakenly think there will be a big catalyst that invokes strong emotions spurring us to forgive. Neither of these scenarios are necessary or required. We simply make a choice. We choose to forgive. We don’t need all the feels, we need all the Jesus! Jesus urges us to forgive because the cost of unforgiveness is too high. The debt unforgiveness creates is beyond our bank accounts. So don’t run u...p a tab to begin with. Choose forgiveness. Remove the emotion and insert the action. Moreover, forgiveness is releasing ourselves from being indebted to others. Oftentimes, they’re unaware of the debt. How many times are our emotional pleas met with I don’t know what you’re talking about? They may not be aware of the slight, offense, or hurt, and that isn’t a requirement to forgive. Yet, even if they are, it shouldn’t change our decision. Forgive. Make the choice not a feeling. #forgive #forgiveness #forgiveoneanother #choice #choices #choseforgiveness #wednesday #wednesdayvibes #wednesdaywisdom #wednesdaymotivation #theoneanothers #oneanother #jesus #bibletruth #truth #bible

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is My body. And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:26-28 NASB Join us as we take communion together as a church body this Sunday. If you’re unable to be with us in per...son you can still take part by watching the service live online.
