Hobart Book Village Festival of Women Writers is excited to announce that Linda Lowen is leading a 4 part workshop beginning April 1st, entitled Creative Non Fi...ction: The Hermit Crab Essay. Imagine telling your nonfiction story through an unexpected form: recipes, receipts, rejection letters, an accident report, a prescription label. This is the hermit crab essay -- creative writing using an unexpected structure to shape story. It takes its name from the hermit crab: born without a hard exterior and therefore soft and unprotected, compelled to find a shell or other container to survive. We'll read examples online to understand how it works, then you'll try your hand at writing essays/stories experimenting with different containers. The workshop will be offered via Zoom on April 1, 8, 15 & 22 Noon - 1:30 pm. The maximum for this class is 12 participants. A minimum of 6 participants is needed to run the workshop. Visit the festival website for more details and to register: https://www.hobartfestivalofwomenwriters.com/copy-of-worksh

A NEW KIDS’ BOOK set in our neighborhood, now available at NY Books & Ephemera! Red Rock Road is a picture book for beginning readers, inspired by the home of author Tara Drouin's parents, a beautiful log cabin in the Catskill Mountains. The story and bright Illustrations create a fun and engaging method to teach children about the importance of family and togetherness, life in the mountains, and being one with nature. Tara Drouin is a singer/songwriter, teacher, mom, and ch...ildren's book author. The illustrations were created by Soumya Basnet, a talented UK-based illustrator and designer, who has captured the beauty of the mountains perfectly. This charming book takes the reader on a magical journey of what life is like on Red Rock Road in the beautiful Catskill Mountains. With the purchase of the book comes a free download of the song that inspired the book. See more
