New Amsterdam Market 16.04.2021

With warming temperatures and Spring blossoms slowly emerging, we, too, are now actively engaged in planning our return. Our first task is to find the right location, a place that will welcome our efforts and allow the market to thrive. We are excited to announce that we have initiated promising talks with a very welcoming neighborhood organization and hope to reopen New Amsterdam Market at a new site in the coming months. Please stay tuned. We thank you for your continued interest and support.

While remaining at arm's length from the ongoing land-use debate at the Seaport, we are happy to announce a dramatic new development in favor of the long-promoted Vision for the Seaport. Earlier this month, Council Member Chin issued a strongly worded statement that she would not permit the mixed use project proposed for the Seaport by Howard Hughes because it would irreparably compromise the District's Historic Fabric. And last week, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer joined Council Member Chin in authoring an equally forceful OpEd in the New York Press. One way to be 100% sure you are eating WILD salmon is to purchase any type of CANNED salmon from Alaska. You can immediately identify canned wild Alaskan salmon from the shape of the can: the sides of the can taper inwards towards the bottom. Canned wild Alaskan salmon is sold under numerous regional brand names throughout the US. You will usually find them on the very top or very bottom shelves of the supermarket canned seafood section. Canned wild Alaskan salmon is often pa...cked with skin and bones. These are fully edible and also add nutrition. Canned wild Alaskan salmon includes Sockeye (also known as "Blueback" or "Red"); King; Pink. Price points vary by brand and type of salmon. https://www.virgin.com//why-sustainable-seafood-movement-c

In honor of Spring's arrival, New Amsterdam Market recently acquired 36 heirloom melon seed varietals from progressive organizations such as Hudson Valley Seed Library and Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company. We plan to distribute these seeds to individuals or farms who practice responsible agriculture and are interested in incorporating diversity into their plant calendar this year. At the end of the growing period, we would like to host an exhibition of the different varieties, including tastings and creations from respectable chefs. If interested in participating, please send an e-mail to [email protected] for further instructions.
