In the next two weeks, NCPP will introduce each of the 2021 Truth Be Told fellows and feature some of their work. We begin with Therese Fischer, who has been with NCPP since 2018. Therese Fischer (@theresefischer_) was born and raised in Newburgh, NY. She studied Digital Media Production at SUNY New Paltz and is currently studying Communications with a concentration in social influence at Cornell University. She participated in NCPP’s 2018 Everyday Newburgh workshop, was a TA for the 2019 NCPP workshops, and was commissioned to photograph NCPP’s Barbershop Project. Therese was selected as one of the photographers for NCPP’s 2020 Unmasking the Truth: A Public Art Action. In addition, she has collaborated with the Newburgh Clean Water Project to create a documentary about the PFOS water contamination in Newburgh.

Is pleased to welcome our next fellow, Will Landis-Croft (@willspooky). Will began photographing protests as a teenager in his home town of Portland, Oregon, documenting demonstrations for the abolition of ICE, climate change legislation, gun control, Black Lives Matter, and Indigenous solidarity. In the summer of 2020, he photographed the brutal use of tear gas during the BLM protests for Black liberation and police abolition in Portland. "In my work with photography, I aim ...to explore the ways that images can express resistance to racist, colonial, and capitalist systems." He currently studies photography and journalism at the New School in New York City. In his newsletter, Documenting Collapse (https://documentingcollapse.substack.com/), Will investigates photographic projects that document issues threatening our planet and communities, offer resistance to unjust authority, and envision a world in which our planet could thrive. NCPP welcomes our next new fellow, Salief Lewis (@salieflewis), a product designer and photographer from Harlem. He received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and currently works as a creative consultant to software engineering startups focusing on the issues of wage equality and economic opportunity. Salief recently moved to Newburgh after developing a proposal for @NewburghCommunityLandBank that called for the adaptive reuse of a property based on socially con...scious urban agriculture. Excerpts from the project can be found here: https://drive.google.com//1J2vvOuAengRvRxwKj2-SrJb33m/view. His personal work revolves largely around themes related to consumerism, racial justice, and educational opportunity and he uses photography as a bridge to develop a relationship with the spaces and people that constitute it. He is currently completing his photography studies at SUNY New Paltz and is a committed social justice advocate. This is one of many public art pieces to see and experience in the City of Newburgh, NY. Come visit. Come collaborate. The Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh (BGCN), continues to be an essential piece of the fabric of our community. Most recently, in a ground-breaking collaboration with the City of Newburgh, BGCN hired sixty City of Newburgh youth to explore social and cultural values in their community through the creation of a thought-provoking mural series and banner installat...ion. Audrey Carey Park, named for Newburgh and New York State's first, black female mayor, provided the canvas for this effort to engage youth in a meaningful community improvement project. The Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh is a living legacy of four generations of black leadership. Its commitment to social justice and the young people of our community is essential, now more than ever.
