Suddenly every surface inside simultaneously bursts into flames. Called flashover, it can happen in any building, anywhere in the world. Yesterday it occurred in Chicago and 6 firefighters are lucky to be alive.

Besides fighting fires,, NRFD members must be ready for a variety of other emergencies. Today it was Squad 1 with the ice rescue training at New Rochelle HS. Yellow suits insulate members from frigid water while providing full flotation. Train hard, stay safe -

Great news for Eastchester residents

New Rochelle Firefighters 06.10.2020

TO ALL EASTCHESTER RESIDENTS: Every second counts when responding to emergency calls. It is a dangerous gamble to close a fire house because this greatly reduces response time and man power needed to mitigate the emergency. The Town of Eastchester has closed their only fire house in the north end and has left that district vulnerable REPOST FROM @onthejobny Remember the Garth Road fire a couple years back? What if the first due companies were closed because minimum staffin...g was cut? How much longer would it have taken to get there? What if the initial response from Eastchester Fire was less than 14 firefighters? How many people would have suffered? The Eastchester Board of Fire Commissioners have reduced the minimum for firefighters and temporarily closed the North End Firehouse. What if that fire happened today? From the Eastchester Professional Firefighters: "Due to the incompetence of Eastchester Fire District’s Board of Fire Commissioners: Paul Carlo, Brian Keating, Stuart Rabin, Thomas Roche & Dennis Winter; Station #5 - North End Firehouse is CLOSED! This is a HUGE risk to your safety, as it will increase response times to the North End of Eastchester when every second counts. For more information, please refer to a letter by our union president (link below)" https://www.facebook.com//a.47092666967/3168127139951820/

Today we pay tribute to the workers that have made our society prosperous and strong, and to those that fought for hard-earned worker's rights. Have a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend! (: Doug Stern)
