I never want to make a hard sell to a student, but if there was ever a time to be in school, this is the time to be in school... Students need training to be ready for the world in the way that it’s changed. And it’s likely that many of these changes are going to be permanent, or very long-term. - Dean Keller Coker in a JazzTimes feature on how teachers are adapting to pass on the art form by any means necessary. --------- #CollegeofPeformingArtsAtTheNewSchool: Mannes School of Music The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music The School of Drama The New School

It takes a lot to listen, to reflect, to respond, to relate to others musically in a very present way. All of that has to be happening for the music to reach a certain level. - Jane Ira Bloom, soprano saxophonist and Professor Of Jazz And Contemporary Music at The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music --- #CollegeofPerformingArtsAtTheNewSchool: Mannes, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, the School of Drama, The New School

"...listening to Sanchez and Crispell thoughtfully converse with one another using only sound and texture comes as a welcome retreat. Indeed, throughout How to Turn the Moon, this excellent duo achieves Coleman’s collective unison with great success and spirited musicality." Read the full review of the new album by New York-based pianist, composer, and faculty member Angelica Sanchez featuring Woodstock, NY-based performer and improviser Marilyn Crispell. It will be released this Friday! #CollegeofPerformingArtsAtTheNewSchool: Mannes School of Music The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music The School of Drama
We received a very special delivery this week! This Steinway B piano was owned and played by no other than Charles Mingus and is on loan from the Charles Mingus Institute. Purchased in the early to mid 70s, Charles Mingus played and composed with this instrument until he no longer could. Many thanks to Sue Mingus, "Let My Children Hear Music" / The Charles Mingus Institute, and The Ungaro Family! ... We are thrilled to have Arnhold Hall be its new home! --- #CollegeofPerformingArtsAtTheNewSchool: Mannes School of Music The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music The School of Drama The New School
