This coming Tuesday, April 27, at 6 pm, the topic for "The Open Eye Theater Playtime" on WIOX Radio in the Catskills 91.3 FM and streaming on wioxradio.org. wil...l be "What's So Great About Ten-Minute Plays?" Erwin Karl and I will co-host. Guests Darlene DeMaille and Gail Lennstrom, both members of the script reading team for "Summer Shortcuts XI," will join us as we explore the art and craft of the ten-minute play. Also joining us are two of our favorite playwrights: Donald Loftus and Verne Vance. We'll read plays they submitted to last year's Shortcuts program. Don's play "When the World Falls in Love" is a comedy; and Verne's "Time Was, Time Is" is a drama. Wanted to let you know about this: THE OPEN EYE THEATER ANNOUNCES NEW RADIO SERIES ON WIOX COMMUNITY RADIO IN THE CATSKILLS... Coming to WIOX Community Radio, 91.3 FM and wioxradio.org is The Open Eye Theater Playtime, a front row, on-the-air seat to plays for kids, plays for grown-ups, and all things theater, hosted by Open Eye artists Amie Brockway, Erwin Karl, Carol Schwartz, and Elizabeth Sherr. Playtime will air every other Tuesday at 6:00 pm, beginning April 13. There will be reading performances, full-out radio play productions, interviews with theater artists, on-air workshops, and more. The first Open Eye Theater Playtime program, on Tuesday, April 13, features a 30-minute radio play for young and family audiences: The Wolf and Its Shadows, by Sandra Fenichel Asher, with original music and sound design by Elliot Sokolov. Hosts Amie Brockway and Erwin Karl will chat live with the playwright and Laurie Baratta McIntosh, who plays WOLF. This archival radio play production was first performed and recorded in June of 1997. In it, WOLF tells a variety of folk tales and traditional stories about wolves, and clarifies some misconceptions about their relation to other animals and human beings. Joining Laurie Baratta McIntosh in the cast are Steven Amato and Mark Rosenwinkel. Stage manager was Elizabeth Streiff, and field engineer was Kevin Gref. Amie Brockway directed. Please join us for this entertaining story by Sandra Fenichel Asher, with original instrumental music and ingenious sound effects designed by Elliot Sokolov, said Amie Brockway. I think young people ages 8 and up, and all manner of adults will enjoy the stories and enormous creativity. Co-host Erwin Karl and I can’t wait to hear what Sandy Asher and Laurie McIntosh have to say about their experiences in doing the radio play so many years ago. Opening theme music for the new Open Eye Theater Playtime series is by Elliot Sokolov, and the closing theme is by Robert Cucinotta.
