Congratulations Birdie!!

This past week members of Newton Abbott were joined by members of Woodlawn Fire Company to participate in our annual air consumption drill. This drill is designed to simulate the stress put on to the body working at a fire. Doing this allows the firefighter to understand how long they can effectively work while wearing an SCBA and full turnout gear. To make it more fun members participate in a game of dodgeball.

31 years ago Paul Uzar joined the Newton Abbott fire company. From the time he started he was an integral part of the company. Rising through the ranks and serving as chief from 2003-2006. Throughout his 31 years of service he responded to tens of thousands of calls, attended tens of thousands hours of trainings, work details, and performed countless other duties around the hall throughout his tenure at Newton Abbott. He has been a top responder and often the top responder for the last 20 years. Paul, everyone at the Newton Abbott Fire Co. Inc., would like to thank you for your 31 continuous years of dedication and service to Newton Abbott and the residents of the town of Hamburg and surrounding areas. Enjoy your retirement!

We apologize to the neighborhoods we were unable to tour with Santa. While doing our parade Newton Abbott 9 noticed a chimney fire. We immediately stopped the parade to tend to the fire. Luckily Santa was more than willing to give us a helping hand and operate our ladder truck! Thank you to all the residents who came out to greet Santa and our crews. It is always a great pleasure to be able to take Santa for a tour of our neighborhood. If you have any pictures or videos please send them our way! You can send them via messenger or to [email protected]

Newton Abbott 2020 year in review. 2020 was an interesting year in Newton Abbott history. We started out the year with a change in our chief's staff as Chief Charles Minch took over. NAFC then had the difficult task with the loss of two active members weeks apart. We will never forget you, Joshua Choinski and Trevor Smith! Shortly after the loss of our brothers, we endured an event happened that would change our department forever. We entered into the Covid-19 shutdown. NAF...C leadership updated our policies and standards, created new policies, standards, and response protocols to ensure the protection of our firefighters, families, and communities during this pandemic. We finished the year under the Covid-19 pandemic while responding to 831 calls that included several fires in our own district, mutual aid to neighboring departments, including our RIT team. We were called to many medial calls, motor vehicle collisions, and various service calls. NAFC had 2 members finish their Basic fire fighting class, 3 officers complete the NYS Fire Officer 1 course, and many other courses were also completed by our members during the year. Our 831 calls broke down with: ~26 Building Fires ~2 Vehicle fires ~77 False alarms ~30 Other miscellaneous fire calls (grass, dumpster fires ext..) ~583 EMS calls ~38 MVA's ~15 Utility calls (Carbon Monoxide, Natural Gas, Power line emergencies) ~11 Service Calls ( Assist Police, Assist residences) ~49 Good intent calls Newton Abbott would like to take the time to thank our community and our dedicated volunteer members for their continued support to keep the community we serve safe 24/7.
