New York Film Academy 16.11.2020

It’s the most wonderful time of the year...well almost! Netflix has recently announced the upcoming release of holiday musical feature film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, starring Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Hugh Bonneville, and more. NYFA alum Francesco Panzieri served as the compositing supervisor for the upcoming film, set to be released on November 13, 2020.... Panzieri worked as an in-house compositing supervisor for Jingle Jangle, leading a team of artists who completed over 230 shots of post-visualization, with over 70 production shots that are in the final cut. Panzieri shared that the total VFX shot count was around 550 and is confident that the film will be welcomed warmly for all audiences over the upcoming holidays.

New York Film Academy (NYFA) had the pleasure of hosting a live video Q&A with acclaimed actress Nathalie Emmanuel to discuss the acting craft and her career with NYFA students. Tova Laiter, Director of the NYFA Q&A-List Series, curated and moderated the event. Nathalie Emmanuel is well-known to many as ‘Missandei’ in the critically acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones. Emmanuel also appeared in Quibi’s comedic series Die Hart, starring alongside Kevin Hart and John Travolta.

New York Film Academy - Los Angeles, California alum Valéria Costa was born to be in the film industry. After graduating from NYFA’s MFA Filmmaking program, Costa went on to produce work for Netflix, Uber, TLC, NatGeo, Twitter and Spotify. Costa has worked on multiple projects both in Brazil and in the United States including Netflix’s Hyperdrive and 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way. She also worked on the NYC unit for the Brazilian feature film Minha Vida em Marte and on the se...t of the shoot for the Get to Know Me music video for Brazil’s biggest popstar, Anitta Costa recently worked on the Brazil Unit for Netflix productions of Sergio and Street Food: Latin America. We recently spoke with the #NYFAAlum to discuss some behind the scenes insight on these recent projects, as well as Costa’s role as a Production Manager, who specializes in working with foreign productions-check it out below.

The Nordic International Film Festival held its 6th edition this month, and, like many festivals this year, has had to re-invent the festival experience due to the #COVID19 global pandemic. Founders and NYFA alumni Linnea Larsdotter Mikkelä and Johan Matton devised a hybrid in-person and online experience where festival goers could attend drive-in screenings being held at The Brooklyn Army Terminal in New York City, as well as view films online. Congratulations to filmmaker Nicolas Kolovos, his film "Index" is the winner of the Aurora Borealis category at this year's Nordic International Film Festival (NIFF). "Index," which is filmed in a single shot, tells the story of a family preparing to flee to Europe by boat when their young son’s finger gets stuck in the trailer of the truck transporting them. As the time for the boat’s departure nears, the family has a terrifying decision to make. NYFA has partnered with the #NIFF for the second year in a row, and Kolovos will be receiving a scholarship to one of NYFA's 4 week Online Program!

In a season cut short by the Coronavirus pandemic, the Tony Awards declare the show must go on in celebrating the productions that ran before the February 19, 2020 cut-off to be considered for the 74th Annual Tony Awards. Out of 18 nominated shows, leading the pack of nominations is the Alanis Morissette musical Jagged Little Pill with 15 nominations, including Best Musical and earning at least one nomination in every eligible category! The heavily-nominated production was produced by the Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre at NYFA alumni Chase Thomas & Yael Silver.
