7th & 8th graders made blankets for Blankets of Hope, a nonprofit helping students practice empathy and kindness by donating blankets - each paired with an inspirational handwritten note - to those experiencing homelessness. Our blankets were donated last week to Center for Youth shelters. #kindnessmatters
The 2020-2021 school year was a year like no other! We were open for in-person instruction five days/week ALL YEAR and that is just AWESOME! Yesterday was our last day of classes and it was a full & fun day; a celebration. We are so proud and thankful for our NHS community and wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer!
Last week our 8th graders invaded Seabreeze Amusement Park! They had such a great time and it was a fun way to come together before the last day of classes.
Mrs. Pudetti made a very special home visit last week!
A HUGE thank you to The Norman Howard School Parent Association for giving each of our 12th graders a graduation gift. They loved them! Thank you for your generosity.

The show must go on....and it did! A HUGE congratulations to the cast & crew of Peter Pan, Jr.
While we are getting ready to celebrate the Class of 2021, the Class of 2025 is getting in the spirit too! 8th graders made some awesome tie-dyed t-shirts and they are excited to wear them on their field trip tomorrow.
Thank you McNelis Law PLLC for supporting our golf tournament, our students and our program!
Best Buddies is a global volunteer movement that believes in empowering volunteers to carry out their mission and change the world through the power of friendship. Creating friendships to advance social inclusion, independence, and empowerment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is the cornerstone of their mission. The Best Buddies Club at The Norman Howard School gives our students the opportunity to offer social mentoring while improving the quality... of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. Norman Howard students work with students from Holy Childhood to form meaningful connections, gain self-confidence and share interests, experiences and activities. Congrats to our 2020-2021 Best Buddies NHS Mentors 12th graders Nina, Tori and Noah 10th graders Logan, Anders 9th graders Erica, Katrelle and Sam While we cannot meet in person this year with our friends from Holy Childhood we look forward to many virtual experiences! #bestbuddies
Our school newspaper, The Norman Howard Voice, provides a purpose-driven, collaborative, and meaningful pathway for students to learn and practice skills, all while promoting a sense of community and having fun! Students work together with Mrs. MacKenzie to come up with story ideas for each edition. The newspaper provides an avenue for students to work on their goals in a very authentic and student-centered way. Students are engaged because they are able to pursue topics of ...interest and they want to do their best work because they know others will read their articles. Students are encouraged to interview both peers and staff which provides an excellent platform to practice social thinking. They work collaboratively to plan, edit, and execute each edition of the paper. Students use Thinking Maps, a visual-cognitive tool and NHS school-wide strategy, throughout the writing process. (Thinking Maps allow students to see the different types of thinking they are required to do, i.e. Brainstorming = Circle Map and Sequencing = Flow Map.) Finally, and probably most importantly, students have a tangible finished product, The Norman Howard Voice, to share at home and school!
The Norman Howard School is full of shining stars!! Earlier today, a few of those stars shared their Norman Howard School "story" with us and the positive changes they have experienced since starting at NHS. We can't wait to show you more...
A huge CONGRATULATIONS to 11th grader, Brandon, for achieving Eagle Scout this past weekend! We know this honor is the result of your hard work, your dedication, and your commitment to reaching this goal. We are so proud of you!
