Employers spend, on average, over $15,000 a year on workers who are mentally distressed. Employers that support mental health, however, see a return of $4 for every dollar invested in mental health treatment. Sharing a memory from my 1st Defensive Driving Class: Instructor asked the following question to open the class: "Can you name some of the safety devices in your car?" There were the expected responses: Seat belts, breaks, lights, etc... to which the instructor asked "What about the driver?". He went on to note that the driver is the safety device most likely to fail. The sentiment is this: it is truly part of our understanding and teaching that we can become better defensive drivers each time we make safer choices while behind the wheel.
