What is severe aortic stenosis? Severe aortic stenosis prevents your aortic valve leaflets from opening and closing properly. This makes your heart work harder to pump blood to the rest of your body, which may affect your health and limit your daily activities. Treatment for aortic stenosis depends on how far your disease has progressed. If your stenosis is mild, medication may be prescribed to help regulate your heartbeat and prevent blood clots. However, if the severity ...of your stenosis progresses, your cardiologist at North Suffolk Cardiology may recommend replacing your diseased aortic valve. Severe aortic stenosis cannot be treated with medication. The only effective treatment is to replace your aortic valve. Today, there are 2 options to replace your diseased aortic valve: transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or open-heart surgery. Have questions? Schedule an appointment with one of our board-certified cardiologists today by calling (631) 941-2000.
