The Norwich Business Improvement District has selected the 2020 Commitment to Community Award Winners. This is an annual award given to those who have gone above and beyond for the betterment of the Norwich Downtown District and our community. A few of the past recipients include Steve Craig, Mindy & Tracy Chawgo and Dave Shull. Commitment to Community Legacy Award: Mike McCormack The Norwich Business Improvement District is please to present the 2020 Commitment to C...ommunity Legacy Award to Mike McCormack. Since 2011, the Festival of Lights Parade held in Norwich, NY has been a yearly event to kick-off the holiday season for the thousands of people that attend. The combination of music, lights, holiday décor, fire trucks, floats and, of course, Santa, has been a magical event that would not exist without the tenacity and dedication of one man, Mike McCormack. Mike plans for this event year-round, spending countless hours fundraising, coordinating with vendors and adhering to safety protocols all to ensure the parade goes off without a hitch. While we will ALL miss having the parade this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still appreciate and thank Mike for all the hard work and passion he puts into the parade event each year. Mike has also served on the Norwich BID board since 2013, volunteering his time, knowledge and expertise to better the downtown district. Congratulations, Mike! Commitment to Community Volunteer Award: Paul Eaton Paul Eaton is a shining example that one person can in fact, make a difference. Paul has taken it upon himself to clean up the downtown district of garbage, one cigarette butt at a time. He has spent countless hours walking the sidewalks and clearing away the debris all to ensure our city looks great. Paul’s decision to give back to his community, using his personal time and energy for the betterment of our city, is the very reason he has been awarded the Norwich BID’s Commitment to Community - Volunteer Award. Our downtown streets most certainly look cleaner because of Paul’s dedication and we thank him deeply for his service. Congratulations, Paul! A small ceremony to present the awards will take place on Saturday, October 24, at noon during the last Saturday’s in the Park with Chobani. Masks and social distancing are required. See more
