The Rural Niagara Community Coalition has created Wellness Niagara an initiative to connect residents in Niagara County to mental health and addiction services. Several community partners have worked collaboratively to create & share resources and information to support the wellness of the community through their webpage, https://padlet.com/ruralniagaracoalition/wellnessniagara. This website is meant to be a tool to connect our community to information and services to support their wellness needs, destigmatize mental health concerns, and promote resiliency & coping skills. Please share and spread the word!

June is pride month, but it is also National Safety Month! Let's talk about traffic safety with distracted driving. Cell phones are a top distraction while driving. New technology in vehicles is causing us to become more distracted behind the wheel than ever before. Put your phone down. It can wait! Even if it's hands free doesn't mean safer. It can still distract our brains from the task at hand. #Itcanwait #distracteddriving #safetyfirst #nationalsafetymonth #donttextanddrive #putdownthedistractions #safetypostershop #WellnessWednesday

Only 3 more days left in 2020! Every year Northpointe Council chooses an employee for the Spirit Award. Employees are nominated by their Directors or other co-workers who are proud to work at Northpointe, a team player, have a positive attitude, motivating, a cheerleader for co-workers, clients and the agency. Someone who is genuinely enjoys what they do. This year 12 employees were chosen for the 2020 Spirit Award. We wanted to spotlight these employees because this had been a challenging year for everyone and we couldn't pick just one employee to acknowledge. These are the winners for the 2020 Spirit Awards and their perspective departments. Congratulations to all! #northpointecouncil #spiritaward2020 #goodbye2020hello2021 #congrats

Let's face it, 2020 hasn't been kind to any of us. Our teens may be less well equipped to manage the stress of this year. Use these tips to take a break from... the barrage of constant communication and manage your stress in a healthy way. 1. Get some sleep. Getting enough sleep helps you grow and develop normally, pay attention throughout the day and maintain overall health. For teens, this means about 8-10 hours each night. 2. Focus on your strengths. Take some time to think about what you’re good at and ways to do more of those things. By focusing on and building your strengths, you can keep your stressors in perspective. 3. Do healthy things that make you happy. Find activities or hobbies that make you happy and incorporate them into your daily life. This might be a physical sport, an artistic outlet or spending time with family and friends. 4. Engage in physical activity. Exercise takes our mind off stress and releases chemicals in our brain that make us feel better. This can be anything from a stroll in the park to a bike ride or basketball game with friends. 5. Talk to someone. It can be hard to manage stress alone. Talk to a parent, teacher or other trusted adult about your problems and they may be able to help you find new ways to manage your stress. Our Prevention Educators are also available with other stress reduction programs and groups. Contact us at 294-9000.
