It’s a proud and historic moment for NYAM as we announce the appointment of SUNY Downstate President Dr. Wayne J. Riley as Chair of our Board of Trustees. Dr. Riley is the first Black board chair in the organization’s 173-year history. The NYAM Library continues its celebration of early women Fellows of NYAM with a blog post on Dr. Elizabeth Martha Cushier (18371931), the third female Fellow, admitted in 1889. Cushier was a resident physician at the New York Infirmary for Women and Children and a renowned obstetrician and surgeon. Learn more below.

A new NYAM study shares findings on the Claremont Healthy Village Initiative, an innovative partnership between Healthfirst, BronxCare and nearly 20 community-based organizations to address the broader determinants of health and reduce inequities in the South Bronx. The study found that that this type of collaboration has the potential to improve the health of a community by bringing in new resources, strengthening local partnerships, and increasing access to health programming and services.
