The New York Times recently published an article about the epidemic of cracked teeth resulting from the stress and trauma associated with COVID-19. The author of the article, a dentist, claims that she has seen more tooth fractures in the last six months than she had in the previous six years due to poor sleeping habits, lack of ergonomics in the work-from-home environment, teeth grinding and clenching from stress. Different treatments are available for managing such conditions. #NYCdentaloffice #NYCdental #NYCdentist #NYCdentistry #healthyteeth #MarinaLiberchuk #teethwhitening #sleepapnea #snoring #oralappliance
CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) therapy is still the most prescribed therapy for reducing sleep apnea symptoms. However, even with all of the advances in the CPAP therapy, some people are unable or unwilling to use it due to discomfort. Oral appliances, fit by qualified dentists, are an alternative treatment for those patients who can't tolerate CPAP. Custom-made oral appliances are designed to keep the airway open during sleep, preventing it from collapsing. However, they are not meant to be a substitute for patients with severe sleep apnea. #NYCdentaloffice #NYCdental #NYCdentist #NYCdentistry #healthyteeth #MarinaLiberchuk #teethwhitening #sleepapnea #snoring #oralappliance
Obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related disorders are risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Dentists have a unique opportunity and serve an important role in identifying patients with those disorders. As part of routine dental examinations and simple screening questionnaires, dentists can recognize the risk factors and work in collaboration with physicians to find an effective treatment. #NYCdentaloffice #NYCdental #NYCdentist #NYCdentistry #healthyteeth #MarinaLiberchuk #teethwhitening #sleepapnea #snoring
Although oral cancer linked to tobacco and alcohol use has declined by 50%, a non-smoker or a non-drinker may be at risk for oral cancer due to human papillomavirus (HPV). The HPV-related oral cancer has risen by 225% over the past two decades according to CDC. Dentists and dental hygienists play a critical role in screening adult patients for oral and oropharyngeal cancer. #NYCdentaloffice #NYCdental #NYCdentist #NYCdentistry #healthyteeth #MarinaLiberchuk #teethwhitening
