A lack of meaningful opportunities for parole release is a major contributing factor to mass incarceration in New York State and across the country. Repeated parole denials mean that families and communities are deprived of their elders and loved ones, and thousands of people are spending decades behind prison walls. In New York, we can help end this racially-biased parole system that values vengeance and endless punishment above redemption, transformation, healing, and safe...ty by committing to our collective belief in redemption and personal transformation. The People’s Campaign for Parole Justice advocates for decarceration and family reunification through two transformative bills, Elder Parole and Fair & Timely Parole. These bills will ensure that every person in NY State prison has a fair and meaningful opportunity to return home during the course of their incarceration. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Carl E. Heastie will you commit to supporting these critical and progressive pieces of legislation this session? #ParoleJusticeNY means being true to the values of compassion, forgiveness, and healing by providing people in prison with meaningful opportunities for release.
