Is Too Much Screen Time Giving You a Headache? Here are some helpful tips- Adjust the screen brightness to match your workspace. If your screen is very bright, and you work in a dim office, your eyes work hard to function under two contrasting environments. Your workspace should have ample lighting. Time down the brightness on your screen and use a desk lamp.... Adjust the refresh rate on your monitor- refresh rates help preserve battery life but cause an almost imperceptible flicker which can trigger migraines. You can adjust the rate or use a screen filter app which will eliminate screen flicker. Check the link in my bio for my favorite app. Increase your font size- If you’re squinting to see your screen, you probably need to adjust your font size, so your eyes don’t have to struggle as hard to read. Set up your workspace properly- Place your monitor directly in front of you at eye level 20-40 from your face. Adjust your chair so that you are looking straight ahead and not having to turn your head or twist. Sit upright- Set up your workspace so that you sit comfortably, maintain an upright posture, and don't have to slouch. This avoids muscle tension that builds up in the head, shoulders, and neck, which can trigger migraines. Install a screen filter- Blue light disrupts your natural circadian rhythm and can make light sensitivity worse. Blocking blue light with a blue light screen filter can help. Check the link in my bio for my favorite app. Wear computer headache glasses or migraine glasses- A special tint (FL-41) blocks blue light wavelengths and has been clinically proven to improve light sensitivity in migraine and other conditions. This tint is rose-colored and can be worn both indoors and outdoors. Check the link in my bio for a trusted brand. Regularly take breaks- Don’t forget to take frequent breaks when at your computer. Stand up and move around to relieve some pressure off from your neck and shoulders. Take deep breaths, drink some water, and have a high-protein snack. Continued in comments...

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne illness in the US with over 300K people infected each year. Lyme can affect various parts of the body, including the eyes. Lyme is caused by a tick which transfers the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi. In the early stage, Lyme disease affects the skin near the tick bite, causing a rash with a bull’s eye appearance (erythema migrans). Other symptoms include swollen glands, headache, fatigue, joint pain, sore throat, and fever. If untrea...ted, the infection can spread to the nervous system, joints, and other organs. If the disease progresses to later disseminated stages, more severe symptoms can develop such as memory loss, difficulty concentration, and numbness in the hands, feet, and arms. Lyme disease can involve the eyes at any stage. Possible ocular manifestations of Lyme disease include: Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, involves inflammation of the white part of the eye, typically in the first few weeks of infection. Conjunctivitis occurs in 10% of newly infected Lyme patients. Symptoms include red eyes, itching, and discharge. Light sensitivity may be caused by inflammation in the or . Certain antibiotics used to treat Lyme disease may also cause light sensitivity as a side effect. Eye inflammation can develop in Lyme disease, usually in the third/late stage. Inflammation may affect the optic nerve, which can become serious and even lead to vision loss. Symptoms of optic neuritis include eye pain, loss of color vision, and flashing lights. The retinal vessels can also become inflamed, leading to blurred vision and floaters. Inflammation of the facial nerve(s) may develop with facial weakness (Bell’s palsy). This may cause inability to close the eye, which dries the cornea and can lead to an infection. Although Lyme disease is common, diagnosis may be delayed. Be sure to get tested if you’ve had a tick but or suspicious symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment are key! Are you familiar with the symptoms of Lyme?

Imagine this - You are on your death bed and standing around your bed the ghosts of the ideas, the dreams, the abilities, the talents given to you by life. And that you for whatever reason, you never acted on those ideas, you never pursued that dream, you never used those talents, we never saw your leadership, you never used your voice, you never wrote that book.... And there they are standing around your bed looking at you with large angry eyes saying ‘we came to you, and only you could have given us life! Now we must die with you forever.’ The question is if you die today, what ideas, what dreams, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, would die with you? - Les Brown This weekend I have been attending an incredible virtual conference called the #mindsharesummit This is my absolute favorite conference of the year. It brings together an incredible group of health and wellness experts who want to make a difference. They are part of my tribe around the world . This collaborative group helps me to realize my dreams, my goals, my contributions in life. I know what I need to do and more importantly, how to make my ideas and talents a reality. My goal is to have as few ghosts of my unrealized and dreams around my deathbed as possible. My book on prevention of macular degeneration will be released later this year I’m collaborating with my colleagues in integrative health on summits, podcasts, and media to promote nutrition and lifestyle for eye health I’m launching my podcast and online programs in 2021! Best Foods For Eye Health A To Z U is for... Ugli Fruit aka Jamaican tangelo! Yes, it is pronounced ugly!... You may not have ever heard of this tropical fruit, but it’s a hybrid between an orange, tangerine, and pomelo. Why is it helpful for our eyes? It provides: Vitamin C Potassium Folate Calcium Water Ugli fruits also contains compounds called bioflavonoids, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. One flavonoid called naringenin is thought to be a powerful antioxidant. In one animal study in mice, it reduced oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Naringenin also has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and may help reduce levels of inflammatory markers like interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the blood. This may help fight chronic inflammation, which is linked to several conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, as well as several ocular inflammatory conditions. Though this bioflavonoid research is mainly based on animal studies, the benefits of flavonoids in the prevention of eye disease caused by oxidative stress and inflammation is promising. Ugli fruit is truly an ugly duckling on the outside but delicious inside- it’s juicy, with a sweet and tangy taste and light bitterness. It’s also low in calories, with only 47 calories per 100 gram serving (1/2 fruit).
