Did you know that 75% of your child's facial growth is complete by age 7 and 90% by the time they are ready for braces. Don't miss your window. Our Infinity Orthodontic specialists recommend a facial growth assessment by age 5.

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor-based speech disorder; therefore a motor-based speech therapy approach needs to be utilized. Playful activities ... can be incorporated into speech therapy, but the SLP needs to embed strategies based on the principles of motor learning (PML) into the play. Apraxia therapy should look and sound different from traditional speech-language therapy. Increasing ambient language exposure will NOT be enough to build the flexibility and reliability of the child’s speech motor planning system. You can talk, read, and sing to the child 24/7...but modeling more language will not help the child with apraxia learn to TALK. One of the biggest prognostic indicators for a child with CAS is the APPROPRIATENESS OF THE THERAPY. When play and language are the focus of therapy, the child’s speech skills often remain static. The diagnosis drives the treatment approach. And CAS requires a motor-based therapy approach.
