The Open Center 03.07.2021

Modern Feng Shui was introduced to the West in the 1980’s by the Tibetan Buddhist Master, Lin Yun. He developed what is known as the Black Sect Feng Shui lineage. Lin Yun interpreted Feng Shui through the symbolic Bagua. The bagua, which means eight areas in Chinese, is the feng shui energy map that provides a systematic way to evaluate the energy of your environment. Each of these eight areas are associated with different aspects of life--including the five elements an...d the principles of yin and yang--and helps to bring your home environment into balance and harmony with the natural world around you. In the upcoming June workshop, Create a Healing Sacred Space with Feng Shui, Feng Shui experts Anjie Cho (@anjiecho)and Laura Morris (@morrisfengshui) will guide you to create a sacred healing space that nurtures and supports you. They will show you how to create healing spaces using teachings and ceremonies from the Black Sect lineage. This practice incorporates the essence of ancient wisdom from Taoist cosmology and divination, and esoteric Buddhism, while incorporating modern perspectives and practices from interior design, architecture and urban planning. My personal husband Neal Allen and I are publicly airing our differences (and, more importantly, our samenesses) next week at the great Open Center in New York ...City, and you’re invited. The virtual event Wednesday, May 26 is the launch event for Neal’s book Shapes of Truth: Discover God Inside You. It’s a beautifully written book about a little-known path to the divine. Here’s how I introduce it in the Foreword: A Buddhist, a Christian, a Jew, a misanthrope and a secular humanist walk into a bar. This isn’t a joke, but a description of the audience for the book in your hands. Anyone interested in life, love, truth, transformation and simply being humans together will find it exhilarating. Neal’s a little worried about what you think of him, so come bring your love. As his promoter, I am promising a good turnout. Don’t let me down; I can’t stand his sulking. Here’s the link to the event: https://www.opencenter.org/shapes-of-truth. See you a week from Wednesday!

According to traditional Chinese medicine, there is a network of channels (meridians) running through the human body in which Qi our life force, circulates. Along these channels there are 361 acupoints, or focal points, each with a specific location, depth and function that, if stimulated in the correct manner, can help regulate and balance the body, mind and spirit. While there are hundreds of acu-points there are a dozen or so that William Kaplanidis considers pow...er points because they carry out many functions at one time. Learning how to apply acupressure on these go to acupoints can be a great first step in relieving a particular symptom or as a health maintenance tool. Acupressure combined with intention setting, breath control, visualization, affirmations, healing sounds and essential oils can give you more energy, build your immune system and help accelerate your healing process of both body and mind. Join acupuncturist William Kaplanidis for his Acupressure Essentials: Opening Energy Channels to Boost Health & Wellbeing, to discover how you can use acupressure techniques to help address a wide range of symptoms and ailments, including pain, digestive problems, nasal congestion, eye strain, headaches, PMS, anxiety, insomnia, trauma, depression and more. And be sure to check out the free intro on June 9. [link in bio] to reserve your spot artwork by @thenatureofthepoints

Polarity Therapy is a unique form of energy healing that uses a combination of bodywork, exercise, nutritional guidance and verbal counseling to bring body, mind, emotions, and spirit into a state of balance, harmony and vibrant health. Developed by Dr. Randolph Stone, an osteopath, chiropractor and naturopath who sought to integrate Eastern and Western approaches to healing modalities, Polarity Therapy is more than just a collection of techniques. At its heart, it is a se...t of principles about the balance and flow of life energy which, Dr. Stone believed to be the underlying essence of all healing arts. The Polarity Immersion: Certificate Training Module with Gary Strauss provides an immersive introduction to the history, theory and the polarity style of bodywork developed by Dr. Stone. To The Open Center Family, For the last 11 nights, I’ve had the privilege of joining all of you for our first-ever virtual fundraiser, The 12 Days of Gratitude. We’ve breathed together, moved together, cooked together, sang together, crafted elixirs together and even interpreted our astrological signs. The togetherness we shared has been uplifting at a time we certainly all need it...To experience The Open Center like this has engaged me in a way I couldn’t have predicted.... This is the first time we've ever presented something like this and we had no idea how it would go. But your engagement has been far beyond what we imagined. More than 2,000 of you have taken part in The 12 Days of Gratitude and we have seen a significant increase in the number of donations. With the deepest sincerity, we thank you. But, we still have yet to reach our very important end-of-year fundraising goal. The reality is, we need these funds in order to continue to fully serve you in the coming year. If you can, we humbly ask you to make a donation today. If you’re able, whatever amount you can, we’d be very grateful for your support. And there is still time to receive our donor thank you gifts we have decided to extend this through the end of December. So, if you missed out on our live events in this campaign, you can access all of them on demand for a whole year with just a $250 tax deductible donation. We also have a whole suite of incredible private teacher experiences eligible with a $1,000 donation. You can check them out along with our other donor gifts. Tonight we are joined by a longtime friend of The Open Center and a former leader of our organization, Thomas Amelio, for a truly special immersive sound experience. If you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time to register.I’ll be there with you, just as I have each night. Can’t wait to see you all soon. You can sign up here: https://www.opencenter.org//vocal-sounds-for-healing-awak/ With Love and Gratitude, Ross Guttler, CEO, The Open Center

It’s Day 11 and as our first-ever 12 Days of Gratitude virtual giving campaign winds down, we are overflowing with gratitude! There is still time to join us for our free community events tonight and tomorrow at 7pm and when you make a donation you are helping to preserve our 36 year old institution. Here’s what we have going on tonight: On day 11, harness the power of group energy during this community-wide qigong practice. Often referred to as a moving meditation, this ...mind-body practice improves our health by cultivating qi, or life force, through a series of slow, deliberate movements, breathing techniques and focused intent. This free event is part of The Open Center’s 12 Days of Gratitude virtual giving campaign. Sign up and don’t miss out on your last chance to receive our special donor thank you gifts: https://www.opencenter.org/product/group-qigong/ See more
