"We'll literally walk through with each of them how to set up a tax ID, how to get liability insurance, what sort of legal questions you may have, how to do accounting," said Elizabeth Lonergan, regional director, Watertown SBDC. https://www.wwnytv.com//daycare-bootcamp-promotes-in-home/
"Richard Travers and his partner, Cheryl, have always had a soft spot for Ellenville. Long-time Accord residents, the pair found themselves passing through the ...Ulster County village often. The Hudson Valley is chock-full of historic estates and beautiful buildings from bygone eras. One of them in particular, the 1929 Ellenville Telephone Building, caught Travers’ eye immediately." Certified business counselor, Jean Morris, has been working with Richard and his partner to make his business dreams become a reality. Hudson Valley Magazine highlights his endeavor in this article. On the onset of COVID-19, Mike Mowins, President of Vetted Tech Inc., realized several local first responders were short of critically needed personal protective equipment (PPE). He quickly began utilizing his 3D printing devices to supply much-needed face shields. Using fiber-reinforced polymers, Vetted Tech Inc. created face shields for Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps, Manlius Fire Department, and partnered with an additional additive manufacturer to supply face shields to Up...state Medical University. A high point for Vetted Tech was the ability to provide shields to the non-profit Clear Path for Veterans in Chittenango, NY. The opportunity to provide PPE to first responders is part of Mike's business philosophy of giving back. As a Veteran Owned Business that hires only veterans as employees, he realizes that being part of a business community has its obligations and one of the most important is collaboration. Prior to establishing Vetted Tech Inc. (Vetted Veteran Enabled Transition Technology Enabled Design) in Central New York in 2019, Mike met with the Onondaga SBDC for start-up assistance with financial planning, connecting to local economic development leaders, and market research. "SBDC helped me greatly by providing encouragement, connections, and solid business advice for my start-up venture. Additionally, they were able to assist in the finalization of our financing package to enable us to open the business. I knew that SBDC provided quality business assistance and that's why I selected them in the first place." Mike Mowins, President of Vetted Tech Inc. #TipTuesday: As a small business owner, you may have heard about the New York SHIELD Act, which requires businesses to secure private information and updates breach notification requirements. The act contains a provision for small businesses, which states that security measures should be ‘appropriate for the size and complexity of the small business, the nature and scope of the small business’s activities, and the sensitivity of the personal information.’ While this provisio...n suggests that small businesses may not be held to the same standard as larger organizations, it is still advised that small businesses review and update their security measures to ensure compliance with the SHIELD Act and to protect the safety of their customers’ and employees’ private information.
