NYSEF Nordic 26.01.2021

All 55 km groomed and trackset with packed powder conditions. Pisten bullies have worked over almost the entire XC side, while the ginzu has groomed and reset t...rack on HiNotch and the Biathlon side. It will be a bit blustery today, perhaps escape the wind chill by taking a tour over on the more sheltered Biathlon side trails. While you're over there, don't miss the views from the Brookside Caldera! More at https://mtvanhoevenberg.com/nordic-slidi/conditions-report/ See more

December Athlete of the Month is Andrew Scanio. Andrew is a 15 year old biathlon and cross country athlete from Lake Placid, and currently attends Lake Placid High School. He recently took top U16 in the first events of the season, the Harry Eldridge classic and freestyle races held on January 9 and 10 at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. It has been such a pleasure to watch Andrew mature as an athlete, writes Cross Country Assistant Coach, Julianne Stemp. Andrew has taken real ownership of his skiing he has recognized that much of an athletes success in nordic skiing is determined through their summer training, and his hard efforts throughout the summer have produced results which he is excited about this year. Read more about Andrew at nysef.org/news. Congratulations, Andrew!

On January 30 the NYSEF Devo XC Team is raising money for the Dare To Dream Scholarship Fund which provides financial support to athletes pursuing snowsport competition with NYSEF, locally and nationally! Each athlete is looking for at least 1 donor to sponsor them in this challenge (grandparent, teacher, local community member, NYSEF Board Member, etc.) to pledge a dollar amount per kilometer skied on the Porter Loop at Van ho. The Porter Loop is notorious for being a toug...h course and stretches 15 long KM we ask you to join these athletes by supporting them with a pledge! More details on the challenge is in the link below! https://www.nysef.org/mini-marathon-challenge-support-the-/

Over at the Lake Placid Nordic side of Mt. Van Hoevenberg, we are taking advantage of the colder weather and making as much snow as possible. Our snowguns have ...been blasting the past 48 hours, and we should have the new stadium area (featuring flatter/beginner friendlier terrain) open by the end of the week. For those who haven't heard, we have expanded our snowmaking abilities. This expansion will allow us to cover our new 5km of trails in 3-4 days. This gives us the ability to offer training and skiing earlier than ever before.
