"So while women have made great strides in sailing, Riley isn’t content. 'When you shatter the glass ceiling, it’s not the first woman, it’s the third,' she said. 'That’s when you start to get equity.'" Read Dawn Riley's interview with the New York Times about women's rise in the male-dominated sailing world. https://www.nytimes.com//s/sailing/women-competition.html

Thinking about doing the Midwest Maxi Program but don't want to commit to a whole month on the Great Lakes? Then you're in luck! We've split up our Maxi program into three intensives - the Bayview Mac race, Chicago Mac Race, and St. Lawrence Seaway trip - so you can choose which intensive you would like to participate in. Required training days are commensurate with racing and big boat experience. Check out the program on our website: https://www.oakcliffsailing.org/maxi-acorn-program/.

Oakcliff is proud of our efforts to stay on the water during the pandemic! Those same safety protocols have also allowed us to get the 2021 season off to an amazing start - and if all goes according to plan, this summer will be our return to normal! #Vaccinated https://www.sailmagazine.com/racing/return-to-racing

Visited Grain de Sail recently. A very cool concept. They make (amazing) chocolate and coffee and have committed to building this sailing cargo ship to test and eventually expand to larger ships for carbon free transport. They brought wine to America (mais oui!) and will be headed to the Caribbean to pick up coffee and cocoa. We'll be helping them on the future cargo from the US to the Caribbean. Some very cool things about the boat. It only has a 120hp auxiliary engi...ne and hydro and wind generators with solar panels everywhere. To keep schedule without breakages and a crew of 4 serving 12 hour watches, there are redundancies on everything. Check out the rigging. Also some release valves that are automatically deployed with too much load or roll. The one on the Harken cam cleat is super cool. It is made by a person near Lorient *i'll try to remember his name* The wave of the future is sailing from the past? https://graindesail.com/

It's time for another #workoutwednesday! This one, from Winter Sapling Wes Bright, is a little more advanced than last week's. You will need: One TRX One Dumbbell ... A box or stool that you can comfortably step on This workout has a big focus on form - if you don't recognize an exercise, a quick google should bring up good articles about form from the experts (or watch Ariel and Wes demonstrate in the video). Begin the workout with a dynamic warm up (light jogging, jump rope, etc.). Then: TRX Rows (4x10), TRX Body Saws (4x10), Clap/Shoulder Pushups (4x10), Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts (4x10 - 5 per side), Explosive Box Jumps (4x10 - 5 per side), Dumbbell Snatch (4x10 - 5 per side).

Are you missing your gym and looking for ways to get a good workout at home? Look no further! On #workoutwednesday we'll be posting our weekly team workout, designed by staff members and resident fitness guys Francis George and Ethan Johnson. This week's workout focuses on pushing your lactic threshold: To start: 100 sit ups Thrusters (pictured): sets of 27-21-15-9-6-3 100 jump ropes between each set of thrusters... For thrusters, grab whatever weights you have (wine bottles work well for those without a home gym!), but try to stay on the heavier side. Stay tuned each #workoutwednesday for new workouts from Oakcliff!
