Last week, the world lost a special soul. Chico was one of Bay Walk’s friendliest faces. He was kind to all, a truly good listener, and always ready with a funny anecdote. He left an impression on more lives than he would ever know. Safe passage and Happy Birthday, Joey Chico We will miss you.

Happy New Year, and Happy 100TH BIRTHDAY to Ocean Beach!! OBHS is putting together a project called 100 Voices for 100 Years in honor of the Village's anniversary this summer and we need your input! We are hoping to collect a little piece of YOUR Ocean Beach experience so that we can create a collective history from the people of Ocean Beach from the past 100 years. You can help us by answering the following three questions: Why do you love Ocean Beach?... What first brought you to Ocean Beach? What is your favorite memory or story or activity in Ocean Beach? Answer each question in one sentence if possible! We are looking forward to hearing any and all reflections you want to share. We would love it if you added a photo or other memorabilia to add to your story! Hello all! OBHS is collecting submissions for our 100 Voices for 100 Years project. You can participate any time up until May of 2021, so it could be a good fall/winter project when you’re missing those Fire Island summer days. This project is open to EVERYONE, of all ages, as long as you have a special connection with Ocean Beach. "Historic Homes, Our History" opens TONIGHT at OBHS!! Come down for the history, come for the free cocktail hour, come to support your local activities... Whatever the reason, we hope to see you there!

For the next 4 days, the Ocean Beach Historical Society will be transformed into a haven for Monarch and Eastern Black Swallowtail butterflies. Fire Island's resident Butterfly Lady, Margaret Hofbeck, will be visiting with us, and she's bringing along these beautiful creatures of her garden. Complete with photography from local artists and educational videos, it's an exciting and colorful show for all ages. OBHS's "Birth of the Beautiful Butterflies" will be open 10am-2pm Monday through Thursday.
