Volleyball is back!

Shortly after our last post, Schenectady County authorized us to use the updated CDC Guidelines on mask wearing. Therefore, fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks or be socially distanced, but unvaccinated individuals must continue to wear masks and be socially distanced when not playing or warming up. Since all of our events will be under the outdoor gathering threshold of 500 people, we are allowed to use self reporting, aka the "honor system". We will n...ot be asking people to show proof of vaccination. Instead, we trust that participants that are unvaccinated will wear a mask when they are off the court and cannot maintain social distancing. These mask guidelines will also apply to spectators. 2021 Season Update We are still awaiting approval from the Town Scotia on the dates we submitted and guidance from Schenectady County on running outdoor volleyball events this summer. Due to that, registration for events will not open until mid-April at the earliest. We will continue to update this page as updates become available and remain hopeful that summer volleyball will make its return.

We have gotten some questions about "Do I need to wear a mask if I am vaccinated?" The short answer: "Vaccination status does not alter the Health and Safety requirements." Players do not have to wear masks when playing or warming up, but must wear a mask off the court anytime social distancing of 6 ft. cannot be maintained. ... Spectators must wear a mask at all times, even if vaccinated and regardless of social distancing. The only exception is while eating and drinking, but in that case they must socially distance. We have reached out to County health officials to ask if we can alter our safety plan and the answer at this time is that we must follow the current guidelines. We are hopeful that officials will take another look at these documents and make changes, but chances are they won't be changed until after the High School sports season has ended. We will continue to monitor the situation and update our Health & Safety Plan and Spectator Policy in accordance with the guidelines. We know all of this isn't ideal, but if this is what it takes to get back out there playing again, I think the reward outweighs the inconvenience.

We will not hold spots with fake partner names or TBD's. ... - The price has been reduced to $60 a team due to DOH Guidelines that prohibit food and drink. - You will need to send payment via Venmo within 3 days of registration to keep your spot - We plan to start by allowing 24 women's and 24 men's team. Regrettably we have decided to cancel all events for the 2020 summer season. If you have been following the news, you know that recreational activities, like ours, are part of Phase 4 of reopening. Under NY Pause guidelines, Phase 1 starts May 15th in the Capital Region only if all criteria are met. With each phase lasting 14 days, Phase 4 would start on June 27th, assuming no setbacks during Phases 1-3. Even if reopening goes as planned, we do not know what guidelines will ...be imposed for recreational activities. As such it is still unclear the impact that this will have on the scope of our events and our ability to provide a safe playing environment for our players. While this is not news anyone wants to hear, know that better days are ahead. We will miss seeing you all this summer and watching you play the sport we all love. We hope that we will be able to get everyone back on the courts in 2021. Until then, take care of yourself and your family, stay safe, and keep washing those hands.

In preparation for outdoor volleyball getting the green light next summer, we have submitted dates to the town of Scotia. We won't hear back until early March. For those of you still wanting to play 2 on 2 tourneys, Southern Connecticut Volleyball has been cleared to host events in their state. The state of Connecticut is only allowing 2 on 2 this summer. Check out their Facebook Page (Southern Connecticut Volleyball) to learn how events will be run in light of COVID as they do have some regulations you should be aware of. You can sign up to play at scvdig.com.

Season Update: As COVID-19 continues to cause uncertainty, we will be holding off on posting event registration and announcing any decision on the status of summer league and tournaments. On May 15th, we will provide another update. Miss you all and hope you and your family are healthy.
