You might be wondering when your child is old enough to handle flossing on their own. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a general rule of thumb is that when they can tie their own shoes, they’re good to floss their own teeth! Here's a tasty tip from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry: Did you know that cheese is one of the healthiest snacks for little teeth? Cheese provides calcium which can disrupt the development of cavities. It makes the perfect midday snack for kids! If your kids are not a fan of cheese a great alternative is yogurt, just make sure to check the labels to avoid brands that have a lot of sugars.

Parents - did you know the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), and American Dental Association (ADA) all recommend the amount of toothpaste used by children aged under age three to be no more than a smear (roughly the size of a grain of rice!)? For kids age 3-6 you should aim to instruct just a pea-sized amount for brushing. At this age, kids probably still need your help with nailing their routine, so be patient and make it fun by singing the Happy Birthday song while they brush!

What SWEET news - it's National Cookie Day! You can't enjoy this delicious day without a sweet treat, so here's a recipe for simple sugar cookies (and they're also #BracesFriendly - Hooray!) Save this recipe to bake later and of course, if you do, tag us! :... 3 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 tablespoon milk Powdered sugar, for rolling out your dough : Step 1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Place butter and sugar in large bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light in color. Add egg and milk and beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl. Divide the dough in half, wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate for 2 hours. Step 2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Step 3. Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, sprinkle rolling pin with powdered sugar, and roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick. Move the dough around and check underneath frequently to make sure it is not sticking. If the dough has warmed during rolling, place cold cookie sheet on top for 10 minutes to chill. Cut into desired shape, place at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack. Serve as is or ice as desired. Store in airtight container for up to 1 week. Just the other day we announced new air filtration systems had been installed, capable of keeping the air clean and sanitized. We're still taking steps to slow the spread of viruses by utilizing patients' own vehicles as virtual waiting rooms. Each patient is screened before they enter our practice. Our process also includes contactless temperature reading. You will find to...uchless checkout and sneeze guards have been installed while toys, magazines, books, and iPads are away for the time being. We have been cleaning each room with Hospital-grade supplies, as well. Best of all, we're proud to be going above and beyond to ensure our young patients and their parents can access safe, comfortable, and friendly care when visiting us for their dental needs.
