In an abundance of caution and with everyone's safety in mind, this morning we decided to close Olo Acupuncture effective immediately. There are so many unknowns right now, but evidence has been coming out that asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic people can be carriers that spread the coronavirus more than individuals with symptoms. This is a game-changer. ... Until now, our understanding was that with the necessary precautions, we could responsibly stay open as a resource to our patients. But with that now in doubt, it is clear that the only appropriate action is to close until we can operate safely. Let's all do what we can to stop the spread of coronavirus. We encourage you to stay at home as much as possible and avoid interactions with others outside of your immediate household. If you do go out, social distancing is of vital importance. The steps we take now will make all the difference in the weeks to come. The full announcement referenced article is available on our blog. https://www.oloacupuncture.com//coronavirus-update-olo-acu
As more of us receive antibody testing it is important that we understand the limitation of these tests at this time. "In a population whose infection rate is 5 percent, a test that is 90 percent accurate could deliver a false positive nearly 70 percent of the time." We also do not know if antibodies offer immunity. With this in mind, we recommend that everyone assume that they can become infected and infect others, regardless of what individual antibody test results show. As our communities begin to open back up, please take care.

We're finding information like this very helpful. One of the key takeaways "If people are sufficiently worried, there’s much less to worry about, but if no one is worried, that’s when you should worry."
You've hopefully heard by now that washing your hands with soap and water is the most effective method for stopping the spread of the coronavirus. If you need a little extra motivation to maintain your handwashing routine, prefer hand sanitizer over soap, or like to nerd-out time and again, this is for you.
Fantastic results are in from a recent study on the lasting effects of psilocybin on patients with cancer-related depression and anxiety. With up to 40% of cancer patients experiencing some related anxiety and depression, it is frustrating that this study is only now picking up on research that started in the 1950s. We need to do a better job of recognizing our societal and cultural bias in the sciences. We'll see where this goes, but it is certainly fair to wonder if a solution that requires infrequent dosage and long-lasting benefits will be considered financially viable by big-pharma.

Researchers are hoping this leads to new standards of care for chemotherapy neuropathy.
It's always impressive when a new patient shares their fear of needles with us. While acupuncture needles are super thin, to face your fears and willingly subject yourself to treatment is no small feat! Kudos and thanks to Stephanie, who took on this challenge, came into Olo and wrote about her experience here.
