Program Highlight: Innovative Programs Innovative Programs (IP) provides a variety of academic, social, emotional and behavioral supports to students with disabilities ages 5-21. 115 students from 28 school districts are enrolled in one of our IP Classrooms. We employee 76 staff members in Innovative Programs which include: 14 Teachers; 32 Licensed Teaching Assistants and Teacher Aides; 21 Crisis Intervention Specialists, Counselors, Behavior Specialists, Psychologists a...nd Consultant Teachers; 5 Licensed Teaching Assistants in CTE classrooms; and 4 Administrators and Support Staff. Our staff members work collaboratively to identify and ensure the needs of each student are met. Teachers and their classroom support staff have risen to the challenges presented by COVID-19 by developing and enhancing online learning activities for students during periods of remote instruction. Social Emotional support is provided by teachers and counseling staff through an online calming corner classroom, teleconferencing and student check-ins. Innovative Programs offers different types of classrooms and programs designed to meet the educational and emotional needs of students: Career Pathways: day, multiyear vocational program for students with disabilities ages 14-21. Students learn employability skills while studying a variety of career modules and opportunities to learn with job shadowing experiences. Therapeutic Learning Center: Helps students who are experiencing severe emotional crises by identifying and addressing related problems at home, at school and in the community. TLC staff assist students in transitioning to school programs that support their individual needs. Basic Life Skills: Provides High School Academic Courses for students ages 14-21 with moderate to significant learning challenges. BLS students also attend a Career Pathways program. Trust: Designed for students with disabilities in grades K-12 with severe behavioral and/or social/emotional difficulties. The Trust program provides a highly structured learning environment and intensive behavior management strategies. Students social and emotional needs are supported through IEP and Crisis Counseling. Students in grades 11 and 12 have the option of enrolling in one of our Career and Technical Education programs. Behavioral Adjustment: Designed for students with disabilities in grades 9-12 with moderate behavioral and/or social/emotional difficulties. Students in grades 11 and 12 have the option of enrolling in one of our Career and Technical Education programs. Our Innovative Programs faculty and staff strive to provide each student with all the tools they need to succeed not only educationally, but also socially and emotionally. It's National Special Education Day! Today is the 45th anniversary of President Gerald Ford’s signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that changed public education forever. Ms. Trask, Mr. Sanchez and Mr. Ball were excited to open the new playground at NCOC on Tuesday! The students counted down for Ms. Trask to take the inaugural trip down the twisty slide! All of the students had a great time exploring the three different slides, rock wall and monkey bars. This project began in late August with the removal of old equipment and then installation of new equipment. The project safety inspection was approved on Friday, October 23rd and Tuesday wa...s the first time our students were able to use it. The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the urgent need for federal investments in rural broadband focused on closing the digital divide and ensuring our young peop...le have educational opportunities. I am proud to announce this federal grant for Otsego Northern Catskills B.O.C.E.S. programs that will help more students and teachers access the virtual classroom, and develop critical skills in STEM fields. These funds will also allow the organization to offer remote training sessions in opioid addiction and overdose prevention. I will continue to champion initiatives at the federal level that invest in broadband infrastructure and increase access to high-speed internet.
