Add onion and cook until soft, 6 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, 1 minute. Add cauliflower, stock, thyme, and the bay leaf and bring up to a simmer. TREE PLANTING WHY IT'S GREAT TO PLANT TREES IN THE FALL By Arbor Day Foundation | August 28, 2019 For many people, spring has become the default season when it comes to planting or gardening, understandably so. Harsh winters and the lack of vegetation makes us excited to refresh our gardens and landscape our yards. Spring can be a great time of year to plant, depending on where you live. But, fall may be more ideal for your trees. The best time to plant trees will vary from ...region to region. In moderate places where the weather is consistent year-round, there may not be a preferred planting period. But for many areas that experience seasons, fall may be better to plant trees. Benefits of Fall Planting Planting in the fall gives trees an extra growing season before the stress of summer. The combination of cooler temperatures and fall rain allows trees to establish their roots, making it easier on them to adjust to extreme heat or drought in the summer. Many people fear that young trees can’t withstand the winter. However, that’s not the case. Trees go dormant in the winter, the equivalent of hibernation. This sleep state slows down the tree’s growth, energy consumption, and metabolism. It’s safe to plant trees until the ground is frozen solid, generally after the first hard frost. Even if there is snow on the ground, if you’re able to stick a spade into the soil, it’s still okay to plant. When trees are dormant, they shouldn’t require any extra care.
Something really fun & creative to do with pumpkins!
The Northern Spy is an heirloom apple and is about as versatile as apples come. They can be served raw, baked, roasted, sautéed or slow cooked to a puree. Perfect for use in classic apple preparations such as pies, tarts and cobblers. Use fresh in fruit or green salads or serve alongside honey, cheese and nuts. Like many older varieties of apple the Northern Spy is well known for its cider making qualities. Northern Spy apples are a very late season, large and stout apple with carmine red skin married with streaks of yellow and pale green. Its tender-crisp flesh is creamy yellow and juicy. It imparts a bit of a tartness in its bite, but more of a cider-quality flavor with hints of pear and sweetness. Just in from the our orchard and they are really nice this year!
Apple season has arrived! We can ship apples to those folks who don't have the benefit of living in upstate NY! The apples are hand picked and ride in their own little compartments so arrive just as if they were just picked! Give us a call!
