Ooms Conservation Area

The Eastern Bluebirds are always a spectacular sight anywhere and especially at Ooms!

This may not be a tick, but the ticks are out and very active. Be sure to check yourself, family, and pets before leaving! If you see interesting insects, plants, or other wildlife try using the iNaturalist.org app to help you identify! This critter is a leaf beetle.

Who is ready for Spring? If you haven't planted those native seeds yet, it's not too late. Go ahead and throw those seeds right out on the snow; they're... made for this! And what could be easier? Most native seeds need a period of cold stratification. This means that they actually require periods of cold (and yes, freezing) temperatures and all the moisture that comes with snow and snow melt. So don't waste another second! April will be here before we know it. It will be a time when many native trees and flowers will start to bloom and this will bring out the first of the pollinators! Next month, we will ask you to post photos of the first pollinators you see this year! So break out those cameras (or cellphones) and keep your eyes peeled!
