Sheriff's Message: Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. reports that Law Enforcement in NYS will be conducting the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign for Memorial Day and Weekend. This evening the Otsego and Delaware County Sheriff’s Offices joined forces to conduct a traffic safety checkpoint, one of many details scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend to ensure our highways are safe.... The STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign will run May 28 June 1 with all law enforcement agencies participating and working together, Police Departments, State Police and Sheriff’s Office’s coordinating awareness, education and enforcement activities. The NYS STOP-DWI Foundation has created a new Mobile APP Have A Plan that is available as a free download for smart phones to help find safe rides home no matter where you may be celebrating. PRESS RELEASE: Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. announces the arrest of a Town of Norwich man following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Pittsfield on May 18, 2021. Name: David C. Johnson, 25, Norwich... Charges: Criminal Mischief 3rd (Felony) Narrative: The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of the above named defendant following the investigation into a domestic dispute that occurred in the Town of Pittsfield wherein property damage was alleged. The defendant was arrested and turned over to Otsego County Corrections to await arraignment. The defendant was arraigned at Central Arraignment and released following the issuance of a Temporary Order of Protection. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the Town of Pittsfield Court at a later date.
PRESS RELEASE: Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. announces the arrest of a Town of West Winfield man after an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Plainfield on May 17, 2021. Name: Barton T. Doyle, 54, West Winfield, NY... Charges: DWI; Previous conviction within 10/yrs (Felony) Refusal to take a breath test Driving on shoulders and slopes Unsafe backing Narrative: The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of the above named Defendant following a property damage accident in the Town of Plainfield. Deputies found the operator of the vehicle had been driving a motor vehicle on a public roadway while in an intoxicated condition. The Defendant was taken into custody for DWI and later released on an appearance ticket and UTT’s. The Defendant is set to appear in the Town of Plainfield Court at a later date.

Former District 6 County Representative and now NYS Senator Peter Oberacker stopped in to speak with Sheriff Devlin regarding bail reform issues and other public safety matters. Senator Oberacker a former member of the Otsego County Public Safety Committee thanked the Sheriff and his staff for their service in keeping our communities safe.
Potential COVID exposure January 8, 2021 ... Otsego County Department of Health is announcing a potential COVID 19 exposure at Nancy’s Bar Schenevus. If you spent time at Nancy’s Bar between 11-6pm on January 1, 2021you should monitor yourself for symptoms until January 15, 2021. Sheriff's Message: The Sheriff’s Office received a call from Mirabito store #133 in Laurens asking for a Deputy to stop by as they had something for us. Deputy Sheriff Jacob Smith stopped in and was presented by store management who thanked us for our service with candy which was donated for the office.... COVID Update Otsego County Department of Health December 10, 2020... 20 cases reported today. Since December 1st there have been 203 confirmed cases reported. There are currently 745 individuals on quarantine for being in close contact with a positive case. As cases continue to rise it is more important than ever to practice the public health measures outlined below. We all need to do our part to reduce the spread and protect those who are at high risk for severe illness, such as the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems. Please remember stay home if you are sick Wear a mask Wash your hands frequently Practice social distancing Do not gather to socialize Please remember symptoms of COVID can be very mild, such as congestion, headache or runny nose. PRESS RELEASE: Sheriff's Employee Unions contribute to students cause to help other students. Published by ALL OTSEGO-Photo courtesy ALL OTSEGO... Dexter Walsh, Milford Center, presents a $550 check at noon today to Milford Superintendent of Schools Mark Place, intended for school supplies and field trips. The son of Stephen and Laura Walsh, the home-schooled sixth-grader, who had attended Milford Central through third grade, was concerned COVID-19 financial impacts might prevent MCS from providing some of the services he had enjoyed there. According to his mother, he set up a Go Fund Me site and raised $150. Hearing about Dexter’s effort, Sheriff’s Sgt. Kyle Imperato made a $400 contribution to the effort on behalf of the County Corrections Union and the county Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association. In a speech on presenting the check today, Dexter said he was touched by the deputies’ generosity. He added, We hope this helps our school district and our friends at Milford Central School.

Thank you all for the information provided during our search, and for the well wishes for the welfare of our Deputy and staff here at the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Message: Today the Otsego County Sheriff's Office responded to a injured Barred Owl that was struck by an ambulance. The owl was cared for and kept warm by the ambulance crew. The owl was turned over to Deputy Sheriff Sergeant Michael Stalter who transported the injured owl to local wildlife and raptor rehabilitator Doris Koop of Pittsfield where it received treatment for its injuries and appears to be responding well. Due to the nature of the injuries the owl will not be able to return to the wild but may find its place in a wildlife educational program where it may be used to educate the public on raptor conservation and allow the public to view these beautiful animals.
Sheriff's Message: Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. has downgraded the NO UNECCASSRY TRAVEL to a TRAVEL ADVISORY effective 4pm today. The Travel Advisory will remain in effect until 6am on Friday, December 18. A Travel Advisory: Means that caution is advised since hazardous driving conditions could be encountered.... Although the snow has stopped, dangerous road conditions still exist in many areas. All State, County and local highway departments are out and continue to work to reopen roadways and push snow back. Drivers should remove all vehicles from roads to aid in snow removal. Roads are not closed, the travel advisory is being issued based upon such factors as poor visibility, slippery roads, blowing and/or drifting snow. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office does not determine the necessity for any individual to report to work.

PRESS RELEASE: Two face slew of charges after police chase Staff Report The Daily Star... Otsego County deputies said two people were arrested after a car chase that crossed a county border. According to a media release, Joshua R. Donnelly, 32, of New Lisbon was charged on Dec. 13 with second-degree criminal contempt, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree failure to obey a police officer, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations Deputies said the incident that led to the arrest began when an Otsego County deputy attempted to stop the vehicle Donnelly was driving for having switched plates in the town of Edmeston. Donnelly did not stop and continued traveling a short distance into the town of Columbus in Chenango County he crashed the vehicle, deputies said. According to the release, an investigation revealed that Donnelly had been driving with improper plates while his driving privileges were suspended. He was also found to be in possession of 66 Oxycodone pills, without a prescription. Deputies also said a passenger in the vehicle was the protected party in an order of protection against Donnelly. Donnelly was arraigned and released to appear at the town of Edmeston Court at a later date. A passenger in the vehicle, Melissa L. Johnson, 41, New Lisbon, was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana. Deputies said Johnson allowed the driver to operate the motor vehicle while knowing his license was suspended, and was also found to be in possession of a THC pen and marijuana. She was issued tickets returnable to the town of Edmeston Court. Deputies said no injuries were sustained as a result of the incident and resulting accident.
