There's nothing quite like spending the fall in the city. Tell us, what's your favorite autumnal activity to do in New York?

If only taking a picture made this meal last longer.

My relationship with the Grand Central Oyster Bar goes back many years. Not only did I go there as a child with my dad every time we took the train into the cit...y, I did some photography work for the restaurant in the 1970s, when I had my shop in Norwalk. Only a few years ago I noticed one of my old photographs from 1975 was still being used on their website! This image is a page from my upcoming book, which should be available sometime in late November. See more

Photos taken at the Grand Central Oyster Bar on a visit in 1981. These photos only show the oyster bar area, but there are multiple dining rooms, a large horses...hoe shaped counter seating area, plus the 'Saloon' in the back. The man without a hat, is George Morfogen. George was the fish buyer, kitchen manager, expediter, and part owner. He began most days at 4:00 am with a visit to the old Fulton Fish Market, in the shadows of the Brooklyn Bridge. He was also my contact for the photography work I did for the restaurant. I've worked with a lot of fish and shellfish guys over the years, but none can compare to the extreme knowledge and experience that George had...plus he was a really nice guy! Chef Sandy Ingber told me that when they hired him 30 years ago, they called George out of retirement to train him, and from what Sandy said, it was quite the experience! See more

Dear, friends, it's been seven challenging months since we last saw many of you at the Grand Central Oyster Bar. As we reopened on Sept. 30, we relished the opportunity to be of service again and fill your hearts, and ours, with joy as we did what we do best -- offer an amazing experience to our beloved New Yorkers and to our friends from all over the world. Today, however, we must temporarily close again due to the lack of traffic and business implicitly caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We do have a promise for all of you! We will come back stronger and with an even bigger desire to serve you. Stay safe, be well, and thank you for your continuous support! Please go to www.oysterbarny.com for updates.
