In honor of #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we invite you to view 100 Indigenous Women, a film by Joselyn Kaxhyek Borrero commissioned as part of the #100Years100Women Project, our yearlong commemoration of a century of women's suffrage. In her film, Borrero celebrates and pays tribute to Indigenous women artists, scholars, and activists, who, as they navigate the current world health crisis, continue to be dedicated to women’s empowerment and the pursuit of gender and racial equality. For their contribution to the #100Years100Women project, commissioning partner The Juilliard School tapped into the collective creative backgrounds of their students to explore the history of women’s suffrage and equality through movement, music, and video. The Women in Me is an abstract movement video with an original jazz score exploring themes of trains and shadows visually, physically, vocally, and musically. Featuring drama, dance, and jazz studies students, the work... views the women’s movement as a moving train: we have come far, but our work is not done. The ratification of the 19th Amendment was an incredible feat; still, it excluded many identities, particularly Black, queer, and native women. Their project examines the shadowsour shadow selves, the women kept in the shadows, and the shadowed parts of the feminist movement in an effort to capture the dichotomies and complexities within the women’s movement and within women themselves. Watch, read, and hear stories from the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, including an empowering story from Registered Nurse Regina Kachkoff-Enk, who has channeled her love of #opera during these challenging times. "I’ve been using my voice whenever the time has been right. I feel that music is always helpful in times of distress. It has a way of validating feelings of sadness and despair, and then lifting you out of them to a place of peace and joy. I have found myself listening to music more at this time, something I don’t do often enough. I’ve come to realize that I have the ability to make people feel better in more ways than one and have become less guarded with my own voice." Read more: https://bit.ly/2FLMP4x

We’re proud to partner with Womens Activism.NYC to #LightUpNYC in purple in honor of #WomensEqualityDay, celebrating the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which granted some but not all women the right to vote. We continue to explore the complex legacy of this legislation and shine a light on the steps still left to take on the road to universal suffrage by uplifting the voices of women artists, activists, scholars, students, and leaders in our community through the 100 Years | 100 Women initiative.
