The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) is an unprecedented opportunity to not only build back our communities and economy in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic - but to finally address the deeply embedded inequities in access and voice that limit our democracy. In order for ARPA to meet it's potential and ensure investments match real community needs, we must ensure community-led decision-making is at the forefront of ARPA allocation. In this webinar, we're excited to introduce... the Democracy Beyond Elections coalition-led campaign to win participatory practices, such as participatory budgeting, in the allocation of ARPA resources. We'll discuss what is at stake with ARPA allocation, dive deep into participatory practices, and share how we are building towards a community-led recovery - and how you can be a part of it all. We'll be joined by: Elizabeth Crews, Participatory Budgeting Project Erica Perry, Black Nashville Assembly Ben Palmquist,Partners for Dignity & Rights Jonathan Welle, Cleveland Owns Moderated by: Shari Davis, Participatory Budgeting Project --- The Democracy Beyond Elections coalition is made up of national, state-based, and local organizations who are united by a commitment to real community-led decision making power. Our amazing partners in Phoenix are LAUNCHING their PB process! Students will come together to talk about what safety means to them and their peers- and make the decisions that most impact them! Parents and guardians will work together to discuss what the young people they love need to feel safe, healthy, and secure at school.... Teachers and staff will strategize, organize and determine how resources should be leveraged so their classrooms and schools are a place where students feel held, safe, and ready to learn! Are you in Phoenix? Tap in! Are you somewhere else? Let’s us know what you think about this innovative and unique process! THIS is what reimagining safety looks like
