I’m not rendered speechless very often, but this one did it. This picture is a Christmas present from my kids to me and Jennifer Mihocko. It was supposed to b...e for Christmas 2019, but due to shipping delays, then Coronavirus, and various other factors, it just arrived this week. Knowing that Jen and I were moving, how much we love our home, our children and our dogs, the kids got together and had a drawing made of our house, and all of the dogs who have called it home over the past 18 years (not including the short-term fosters of which there were many). They even remembered to include Princess and Duchess, Jen’s poodles, who were already 10 years old when Jen and I met. I was stunned when I unwrapped it, and Jen was brought to tears when I texted her a pic of the pic. It is possibly the greatest present of all time! So, Rich Tierney, Quinn Tierney, Andrew Tierney, and Grace Tierney, thank you from both me and Jen! It will find a place of honor to hang in our new home. We love you all!! See more

Trixie is a 13 year old Maltese whose owner recently passed away from Cancer. We are trying to find her a home to live out her senior years. She is a lap dog, l...oves treats and to play fetch. Her house breaking needs some work as her owner was too ill to take her outside and did not crate her- she wanted the comfort of her beloved dog. She was crate trained at one time. She is currently living with another dog but tends to bark at him and not engage in play. She is fine around cats. Fine around children. No resource guarding. She takes a thyroid pill once a day and is experiencing some hearing loss. She is a happy go lucky girl who misses her owner very much. Trixie is located in Mohegan Lake, New York. Applications: www.townandcountryk9resq.org under contact us. If you are looking to add a senior love bug she could be the perfect dog for you. Please share for a forever home!

Hey everybody! Autumn here. So today, I was working on my tan in the back yard, and I started to think about consistency. Dogs like me thrive on consistency. Dad drills me on my commands almost every day so it’s crisp and fresh! He works me on sit, down, place and recall in case a situation arises when he really needs me to perform. Please don’t be complacent and assume that your dog knows every command in every situation, even though you don’t practice. Heaven forbid tha...t maybe 6 months from now, you have friends over for a BBQ, and you need your dog to chill out and hold a Place command, but you haven’t made it part of your daily routine. Your dog will likely give you the finger and say Why should I hold Place now, when I haven’t had to do it for the past 6 months? But if you practice it every day, it will be fresh when you need it. Cooking dinner? OK, Mom, I’ll go to Place. Eating dinner? OK, Dad, I’ll hang out on Place until you’re done. Doorbell rings? Ding-Dong. OK, I know my job is to go to Place and hang out until I’m told I otherwise. But your dog won’t do this without consistent practice. It’s not punishment, folks. It’s just reinforcing behaviors, so they’re there when you need them. Lecture over. Love you all! XOXO. Hi everybody! Autumn here. I was a rock star at FDR Park today! Dad and I had an hour long walk. I sniffed everything. When we got back to the car, Dad had to pull 7 ticks off of me. They hadn’t bitten yet, but were just crawling on my skin. With the warmer temperatures, please make sure you check your dogs for ticks after every walk. Tick season doesn’t officially end until we’ve had at least 2 hard frosts, so we are still in active season. Also, Dad posted earlier in the week about training being a 24/7 activity. Did you miss that one? If so, scroll back and have a look. That’s all for now. Love you all! Bark at ya later! Xoxo. Hey everybody! Autumn here. I started thinking about something this morning and wanted to ask you all a question. What days and times do you train your dogs? If you guessed that this was a trick question, bonus points to you! Whenever you are interacting with your dog, you are training them, for good or for bad. Training is basically 24/7, except for maybe when everyone is asleep. If you take your dog for a walk and he pulls you all over the place and you allow it, you’re t...eaching your dog that pulling is ok. If your dog runs to the window and barks at the delivery guy in the driveway and you allow it, you’re telling your dog that’s exactly what you want from him. If your dog jumps on your friend Susie when she walks in the door and you allow it, you’re teaching your dog that it’s ok to jump on people. In a nutshell, you will get a lot more of whatever behavior you allow. Make your dog walk nicely on leash consistently and the pulling will diminish. Make your dog get away from the window and stop barking and that behavior will diminish. Keep a leash on your dog when Susie comes to the door and don’t allow him to jump and the jumping will diminish. Remember, almost all unwanted behavior your dog practices is because you allow it. Set rules, structure and boundaries and you should see a big improvement in your dog. Lecture over. Love you all! Bark at ya later! Xoxo. Hi all! Autumn here. Just wanted to check in and make sure everybody is safe and well. No typical Saturday lecture or training advice today, as Dad had to work today. Just please be kind to everyone. You all don’t have to agree on everything, but you can still be civil and nice. No need to be mean just because you disagree with someone. Lecture over. Love you all. Bark at ya later! Xoxo. Hey everybody! Autumn here. I know I usually bark at you on Saturdays after my walk at FDR Park with Dad, but sometimes real life events happen and make me want to bark at you sooner. Today, I want to talk to you about recall. It could be the single most important obedience command you teach your dog. Potentially life saving, in fact. So this morning, Dad and I were wandering around the back yard minding our own business, when the next door neighbor’s dogs (2 untrained, ou...t of control, 6 month old German Shepherds) saw us through the fence and started barking and pulling their owners towards us. Most of you know I’m not a fan of other dogs, or strangers, so this was a perfect storm. I ran to the fence to take care of the approaching threat, and then I heard my Dad say Autumn, come. I turned towards Dad and then the dogs caught my attention again. Dad repeated the come command and I ran right to him, despite how much I felt the need to handle the situation. Crisis averted. Folks, recall is so important. You don’t want your dogs running towards a busy street if you cant reliably call them back. Or if they chase deer or squirrels you want to know they’ll come when called. Here’s a tip to make sure your dogs recall consistently. Practice with them playing or chasing a ball or toy. Call them to you, and praise them for doing what you asked. Then give them a treat and let them go back to the fun. That way, you don’t poison the command by having your dog associate recall with the end of play time or fun. Mix it up! Keep it fresh! Practice it every day! You want it to be fresh in case a situation arises where you REALLY need your dog to come to you when called. That’s all for now. Any questions, hit my Dad. He’ll be happy to answer you. Bark at ya later! Xoxo. Autumn. ******Special thanks to Diane Bonsignore and Allied Dog Training for making me the best girl I could be! ***** #pawprincepetcare #dogwalker #petsitter #dogtrainer #autumn #pitbull #recall #offleashrecall #lifesaving See more

Hi everybody! Autumn here. I know I’ve talked to you about the Place command before, but it’s such a game changer, I just wanted to give you a little reminder. So, there I was, working on my tan, not in any formal command when the guy in the brown truck showed up (I think he has a crush on mom but he must be shy cuz he comes here almost every day and leaves her presents and then leaves. He never leaves any presents for Dad. Weird, right?) I heard the door of his truck cl...ose, and I woofed at him to let him know I was coming and started to get up. Dad immediately gave me the Place command, as if to say, Thanks Autumn for letting me know Brown Truck Guy is here. I’ll deal with him. Your job is to lay there and work on your tan. So I did. Anyway, folks, Place is great when you need your dog to be chill. Cooking dinner and don’t want the dog under your feet? Place. Eating dinner and don’t want the dog begging at the table? Place. Having a guest knock on the door or ring the doorbell but don’t want the dog bum rushing your guests? Place. It basically means go lie down on your bed and relax until I tell you otherwise. And Place can be done anywhere as long as it is on a defined piece of space, like a dog bed, a mat, a rug, or even a beach chair! Teach your dogs how to go to Place! You’ll be glad you did! Need help with that? Call my Dad. That’s all for now. Dad and I are off for our Saturday walk at FDR State Park. Bark at ya later! Xoxo Autumn. #pawprincepetcare #dogwalker #petsitter #dogtrainer #place #placecommand #chill #relax #autumn #pitbull #amitanyet See more

Squirt and Aunt Jen had a very happy reunion on Saturday! Clients, please consider periodic reunions with your walker so the bond is still solid when things return to normal (whatever that means). You don’t want a stranger entering your home after more than 6 months of only seeing you and your family. Try to keep your dogs’ inner pack as large as possible by having familiar people stop by occasionally. And schedule time (start small and build on it) where your dog is left alone in the house. 15 minutes today, maybe 20 minutes tomorrow, etc. Prepare them for the return of normal, instead of everybody just disappearing one day. Set yourselves and your dogs up for success! #pawprincepetcare #dogwalker #petsitter #dogtrainer #covid_19 #pandemic #separationanxiety #howcanwehelp #supportsmallbusiness
