Pre-planning begins when the foundation is poured. We continue to visiting current construction projects in our district. This allows us formulate a plan for when the building is completed. Walking through a building during construction can reveal structural components, different building materials, void spaces, standpipe locations, and much more. Lt. DeSimone and FF Magliulo are taking a look at the new Hutchinson Elementary School (which they both attended). The constru...ction of the new school means a new PrePlan. We are getting a head start on the planning process so we are prepared when students and teachers fill the halls and classrooms. Pelham Boe Village of Pelham NY

As you benefit from the extra hour of sleep due to daylight savings time, be sure to change the batteries in all of your Smoke and CO detectors and to test them. This 5-minute task can make the difference in alerting you to a fire or CO emergency in your home. These detectors are the first line of defense in protecting your home and family. Make sure all your detectors are up to date. If detectors need replacing, most hardware stores have them in stock. Combination Smo...ke and CO detectors with a 10-year battery can also be an affordable long term option. As always, we are always here if you need us. If you have any questions about the detectors in your home, send us DM or give us a call on our non-emergency line. Village of Pelham NY

This week we had the opportunity to train on aerial ladder operations with Westchester County Career Fire Academy Class. The academy class learned about ladder positioning, operating off a ladder, turntable operation and much more. Our probationary firefighters who are currently attending the academy had a chance to operate Ladder 2 in various scenarios. This will gave them hands on experience with our equipment prior to getting to the firehouse making their transition even more seamless.

Long Post for a Good Cause! Please Read #breastcancerawarenessmonth Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and to maintain limited contact with people we decided not to promote shirts and raise funds for breast cancer awareness month as we always do. We were able to decide on a donation. Thanks to the Pelham Breast Cancer Awareness Club we have a way to do our part this year and help a great local student organization in the process. Good Morning! We are in the business of being prepared. Routines and good habits start the first day in the fire academy. FF Magliulo is ensuring his radio channel is correct. This minor detail can disrupt communications between members or our dispatchers when radio communication matters the most. We develop a daily routine when checking equipment, thus ensures our equipment is in the proper place, is in working order, radio channels are correct, gas meters are calibrate...d, EMS bags are stocked, and much more. By performing a routine check daily tools and equipment are prepared and ready at a moment's notice when our residents need us them the most. What does your daily equipment checks consist of? We spend a lot of time together while we are at work. Working 24 hour shifts over the course of a 20 year career equals 5 years spent in the fire house, that’s about 43,800 hours spent together. It’s safe to say you really get to know your co-workers. We live together, eat together, train together and most of all we work together to protect our village. The time spent together at work builds morale, teamwork, and department pride amongst our members. All the time spent with each other makes operating at an incident seamless which results in a positive outcome for the residents we serve.

Over the past two days we had the opportunity to assist the Career Fire Academy that PFF Borsella and PFF Paolercio are currently attending. While assisting the career academy it also allows us to check in on our Probies, as well as give them opportunities to use our equipment in advanced scenarios only the fire academy can provide. Along with our brothers from Fairview, Larchmont, and White Plains, we were able to provide engines for high rise fires, basement fires, and sim...ulated courtyard hose stretches. We hope all the current academy class as a whole gained some knowledge and insight from these scenarios, we are looking forward to the next few weeks as we have a few more scheduled visits to the career academy class. Stay tuned! Village of Pelham NY

After a busy week, we are ready for the weekend! If you are driving through our village or walking down Fifth Ave/Wolfs Lane and see our doors open make sure to say hello. Also be sure to stop into one of the awesome local businesses our village has to offer. We have a unique responsibility of providing fire protection and emergency medical responses to all businesses in our village. At around 2 am, Engine 5 and Ladder 2 were dispatched to a gas pump on fire. Upon arrival, it was determined there was no pump on fire there with a single car fire near the structure at a gas station. A single line was stretched and the fire was knocked down with no damage to the structure or surrounding vehicles. Via security footage we were able to determine the vehicle was parked there 8 min prior to our arrival, the vehicle ignited 4 minutes after it was brought to... the gas station. We were on scene 2 minutes after dispatch and the fire was knocked down within 3 minutes. A thermal scan of the interior and exterior of the structure was done to ensure the fire did not spread into the structure. Due to fast response time, we were able to prevent any fire from spreading to the structure and to any other surrounding vehicles. We complement the caller for calling right away and to the residents of the adjacent apartment building next door for self evacuating as a precaution. As always we are here if you need us, no matter what time of the day or night. Have a good weekend everyone! Village of Pelham NY

No minions are not taking over the neighborhood, a few of the surrounding communities including our neighbors in Pelham Manor already have received this new fire hydrant installation. Eventually, all municipalities including ours will be equipped with these new hydrants supplied by SUEZ Water New York . We took the opportunity of the new installations to visit our brothers from the Pelham Manor Fire Department to get a quick lesson on their operation and new features. A ...working fire hydrant is a critical part of an operation, it is our water supply. By familiarizing ourselves prior to the installation in our village, the transition will be seamless in our operations. We want to thank our brothers from Pelham Manor for taking the time out of their day to teach us the ins and outs of these new water sources, see you on the border Village of Pelham NY Village of Pelham Manor NY Town of Pelham
