Fraudsters will scam a business to try and change an employee's direct deposit information. They'll submit a phony direct deposit form in an employee's name and hope there are no questions asked. If they succeed, it creates huge headaches for a business because their employee won't receive their normal pay on time, and the money can be EXTREMELY difficult to recover. Your internal HR/payroll/accounting team should have a documented process in place for employees who want to l...egitimately make changes to their direct deposit information. If the process isn't followed, don't make the change! You should always verify the bank routing information using a voided check or a letter from a bank. Not only can this help reduce fraud, but it can also cut down on other mistakes, like transposing numbers or trying to decipher someone's handwriting (is that a 4 or a 7)? Have the employee sign off on any change to their direct deposit!
REMINDER: The NY HERO Act is intended to create workplace safety standards to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and other possible airborne infectious diseases. Employers will need to adopt policies and practices to comply with the law, including updating their employee handbooks. The state did push back the initial implementation date by 30 days, but it will be here before you know it! #compliance #hr
"Pointing the finger" is an exercise we use in our Supervisor Training programs. When you promote an individual to a supervisory role, what training and skills do you equip them with to prepare for managing people? Too often organizations will promote someone because they had the highest sales or they have a particular technical capability (which are good things!) but not necessarily because they'll be the best person to oversee others. If you're considering promoting an employee to a management role make sure you're giving them the training and skills they'll need to succeed! Let us help you get your team set up with direct deposit and employee self-service!

All employers in NYS need to train their employees on preventing and reporting sexual harassment on an annual basis. We want to help you get it done, even in a most unusual year!
